Aftermarket headlamps - any good?

Featured Replies

Looking for a replacement headlamp for our 2014 Yeti L&K because of broken DRL.

They're stupidly expensive from Skoda (nearly £500) so looking at other options.  Looking at used, ordering genuine from Eastern Europe, or OEM part.

Currently thinking of getting this Magneti Marelli one when ebay next do a 20% off Euro Car Parts code:

Is it probably identical / made in the same factory? Or am I best to stick with genuine (in which case I'll probably order from Eastern Europe)?

I had to change light units because of living a la frog, used aftermarket units with no probs and less than 1/2 price ---  the only differenc, the original pre fl's had Yeti cast into the plastic side covers, didn't on the aftermarket units.I could have offered you some original jobs but they wouldn't work as they are for the pre fl model ie with frog eyes!!

Might be worth asking @J.R. about his search for Yeti headlamps ...

I suspect that the MM one is the same as the original, made on the same production line in the same factory.

My thoughts exactly. Just wanted some reassurance before buying.

Don't think the lack of logo is an issue on aftermarket?

Just to follow up for anyone that finds this in the future - the Magneti Marelli lamp arrived today. Got a discount code so ended up paying £280 - local Skoda dealer wanted £480 for a "genuine" one.

Looks totally identical to the original. Although it came in a Magneti Marelli box, the lamp itself is branded "Automotive Lighting" just like the original ones on the car. So I'm 99.9% sure it's identical but much cheaper.

It's being fitted on Wednesday next week so will see how it goes!

The xenons are a lot more expensive than the halogen projector lamps, I have 2 LHD MAgneti Marelli halogen units with DRL's on their way to me at the moment which are costing €100 = £88 each.

Should have precised, they are for the facelift Yeti, part no's 5L1941015D & 5L1941016D.

All fitted today. Seems good so far - it is the same as the original.

Only downside is it's shinier and looks much newer than the other side!
