MFSW retrofit on 5j Model 2011

Featured Replies

Hello

I want to install cruise control on my model 2011 Fabia 5J 1.2 TSI, and I am collecting the parts that I think I will need.
My car came with  trip computer stalk
7b494a9e4ce4bbd452393cafb94d
but the only reasonably priced new OEM kit that I could find was one that is including  6Q0 953 513 AL

Instead of finding a stalk with cruise control and trip buttons, I am thinking to install a MFSW from an 2010-11 Octavia or Superb that has the trips function buttons on the steering

But I am also thinking, is it possible to fit a steering wheel from a later model fabia 5J instead ?

More specifically, will the existing slip ring (6Q0 959 653 B) work with the new type of steering wheel?
Does the connector on the existing slip ring physically fit on the connector from the new type steering wheel ?

Also, does anybody know the part number of the MFSW airbag loom for the new types of steering wheels?

Having fitted cruise mto my vRS using a factory kit....., I can honestly say your going about it a very hard way.......the loom for cruise contains a lot of connections that need to be added, so to wire that up OR buy a loom with it all in is going to be difficult and potentially expensive.

The "kit" number you posted is just for the stalks.............The whole factory kit is

5J1035623A (LHD)

OR

5J2035623A (RHD)

Comes with all you need + fitting instructions.

changing the cruise functions to the steering wheel........mmm not something I would attempt to be honest, the wiring you will need to change / add to and thats even "if" the ECU / body control unit will accept inputs from those switches will be a nightmare, and believe me I will tackle most things.

Probably I didn't phrase it correctly.

For the cc retrofit I bought a factory kit, 5J1035623 that came with the stalk above, cables and instructions.(

The site that I bought it from, are totally unacceptable and they had removed the bcm from the kit selling it separately).

The mfsw I want it so that I can get the trip(computer) buttons back, since the stalk I bought is missing the buttons.

So they sold you the  wrong part ? return it ?

You "may not" need the BCM.....depends whats fitted to your vehicle already.

Unfortunately my car came with bcm that does not support cc, so I have to change it.

The shop advertises the kit without specify that "although the bcm is supposed to be included in the kit by Skoda, we are selling the bcm separately". They used the part number from skoda with the exact description from Skoda.

They are unprofessional for me and I will not make any business with them in the future.

Now back to my question:

Will airbag wiring loom (part# 5E0971584A), that works on Skoda Fabia 5J from years 2013,2014 etc, work on Fabia 5J 2010 Face-lift slip ring?

Ok, so I know it's not my issue and you seem resolved to the fact..............however even if they removed the BCM from the kit, can you not exchange the kit you do have for the correct one ? which is 5J1035623A

As far as your airbag loom question, I have no idea and it will take a LOT of reading of wiring diagrams to suss it out, and in all honesty as I stated before it will be an epic job and thats "if" you can find the correct info.

According to this tread, 5E0971584and newer style steering wheel/buttons work on the last generations of Fabia II cars.

FL Fabia II used the same electronics platform ( PQ25 ).
So I don't think that is a far fetched idea to assume it might work on early years FL 5J

From ELSA I can find the 4 codes for slip rings

>>27.05.2012
6Q0 959 653 B
6Q0 959 654 D (for ESP)

28.5.2012>>
6R0 959 653
6R0 959 654 (for ESP)

>>09.12.2013
6Q0 959 653 B
6Q0 959 654 D (for ESP)

09.12.2013>>
6R0 959 653
6R0 959 654 (for ESP)

And 3 codes for airbag wire used in MFSW
OLD STYLE steering wheel

>>02.10.2011
3T0 971 584

03.10.2011>>
5JA 971 584

NEW STYLE steering wheel

5E0 971 584 A (from the thread above)

I started this thread to bring on more eyes on this matter, in case somebody have tested something like that already.

An update on this old thread to set things right:

When it comes to MFSW with the old style of the steering wheel, the correct airbag cable is part number

3T0 971 584

It has to be like that only. Revision  3T0 971 584 A won't fit. The pins that are supposed to connect with the horn pins are the wrong size.

When it comes to MFSW with the new style of the steering wheel, 5JA 971 584 works also. That part number won't work with old style of steering.

Does anybody know how to unlock the locking mechanism for the small fuses in the fuse-box under the steering wheel?

I try to add a new fuse on the empty slot 5, in order to power CC. My car didn't come with CC and I am retrofitting the wiring

I'm not 100% sure, it was a while ago I did cruise............but I think if you have the right terminals on the wires, you just push them in from the back.

Will check my instructions ...
