2 quick vRS tests.............

Featured Replies

Hi

Could i ask someone to do 2 quick tests for me in there Octavia vRS, mines an 02 plate and is std.

TEST 1: At night, with the headlights on, but not full beam, and the windows are up, could you pull the 2 front window buttons up (as in to close the windows), what happens to the lights when you do this?

TEST 2: At anytime, when the car is warmed up nicely, let the car tickover (mine ticks over at 800rpm) just give the throttle a quick prod a few times, how does it respond?.

Why?

1, on mine the lights dim for a second when i do this, this is all lights, including the dash lights, weird, not sure if there is a problem?

2, on mine, the revs rise to about 1,500rpm v slowly with just a quick prod on the throttle (not flat to the floor) and if i do it several times in a row quickly, it still stayed at about the same rpm.

When i was in a hire car, a 55 plate Golf 1.4 i did this test aswell, the throttle response was very good and it blipped as you would expect and the revs went up as high as you wanted, very clean and responsive, but mine is very sluggish, so again not sure if there is a problem?

Are there any cheap mods to increase the throttle response if it is ok?? i was just surprised at how good this golf was, mind you it was v slow to drive :thumbdwn:

Cheers

Gav

TEST1: The majority of cars do this, its because the current load on the window motors is drawing power away from the headlights. You may see the display of the stereo (the original one) dim as well. They dim for a second before they auto-stop at the top of the frame (they;re already there, I know) Perfectly normal.

TEST2: Perfectly normal response for a DBW car.

Cool, glad the electrics are ok.

Whats a DBW car? sorry, being thick here!! so you think its ok then?

If it is ok, what can i do to make it better that doesnt cost £100's?

Just for additional reassurance, both perfectly normal albeit unusal traits of the Octy.

DBW, drive by wire.

fabia does the same with the windows and headlights

not sure what your on about with the 2nd test

Is the new Golf 1.4 DBW??

probably and my octavia 4x4 does exactly the same.

save that £100 and get a remap later on :D

you should try pulling all 4 window buttons at the same time ;)

did that :) does the same thing with the lights.

so if this is normal for a vRS, does a remap improve things, as thats on my shopping list, although it wont be for a while.

won't affect the lights dipping on tick over no, it won't affect the slightly delayed acceleratot either. just make it wheel spin more :D

octy 4x4 does same throttle thing, and all the cars iv had my hands on... golf/octy/furby all do the light thing.

will have to try that later :) so i guess it counter acts the traction control :)

DBW is Drive By Wire - basically the accelerator pedal isn't attached to a cable that opens/closes the throttle - the pedal is simply a sensor that sends a signal to the ECU to tell it how hard you are pressing it, hence the slight delay.

To sort the lights, uprate the battery (Optima Yellow Top or similar), uprated alternator, increase the cable siize between body and battery, alt and batt, body and alt.

i.e. DO NOTHING.
