Kodiaq questions

Featured Replies

I initially posted this in the wrong area so have reposted here (don’t know if any moderators wish to remove the original post under the Kodiaq guides board)

I got my new Kodiaq on Friday, been a long time since my last Skoda (R reg Felicia) but so far and nearly 1000 miles in I’m really impressed.

However some things do raise questions which I can’t seem to find from the manual.

1) being the 2 wheel drive (DSG) model, I have the driving modes of: eco, normal, sport and individual. For normal driving I’ve found the eco to be ideal, I do a lot of motorway miles and it’s nice to sit there and relax in the car, with the eco it’s almost dumb on throttle response, knock it back into sport mode and it will pick up instantly for when you want it to.

The annoying part is, every time you stop and restart the car it reverts to normal mode again, is there any way to leave it in the last selected option?

2) mirrors dipping when reversing. They did this when I first got it but they pointed in the wrong place for me, they also didn’t return on their own. Holding the electric seat position button down will not only restore the seat position but also mirror position. But since trying to reposition the mirrors for reversing following the manual, it doesn’t dip any more. This is probably less of an issue than most but it would be nice to fix it.

3) Skoda connect app, for some of the features it says I have to register my phone or account or something with my main dealer then I can do things like unlock my car etc with the phone... also if I change phones, do I need to do this again?

4) Front assist, I’m not really sure what I am or an not getting with this. I’ve set the option to early and it will flag up on the dash that I’m too close, but I’m not sure if it’s doing anything else, at one point I was convinced that it forced a set distance between me and the car in front and wouldn’t accelerate until that car had increased the gap in front. I’ve tried again and I could keep driving until I hit the person in front, or least that’s the impression I get and as daring as I dare test it. It isn’t equipped with ACC. And weirdly apart from the small symbol, I don’t get an audible signal.

5) what’s “rear assist” or something to that effect. It shows up on my centre instrument display but have no clue what it does.

6) strange one happened this morning, an alarm on the centre display pinged up showed the same symbol as on the “assistant” shortcut button, looks like  one car following another within 2 circles. I’d done about 2 miles by this points and the mirrors had just defrosted when the alarm went off, can’t find any info on it but again probably looking in the wrong place.

That’ll keep me going for now until I have more questions I think. Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Mirror dipping. Not sure how it works in the Kodiaq as mine does not have it but in my Suberb which did the mirror switch had to be pointing to the left mirror position or it would not dip when reversing. So if pointing to heater, or right mirror no dipping.

1) An annoying quirk of the system I'm afraid. There are driving modes for both the engine, and the DSG gearbox.

If I remember correctly the engine setting is remember after a cycle of the ignition, but the DSG gearbox setting needs changing from the default 'Normal' back to 'Eco' each time you stop and restart the engine.

2) The seat and mirror positions are stored in the key. Are you using both sets of keys? It may be you've set your preferred position on one key, then used the second key (or third if you added the 'Personalisation of drive mode select' option), or with a different driver setting from the menu...

"Allows multiple drivers to adapt the car’s behaviour to their own personalised settings for certain system features via the user account to which a specific key is assigned. These system features include driving modes, assistance settings, lights and navigation amongst many more."

3) Don't get too excited about Skoda Connect, it isn't great as it's quite temperamental. The ability to lock your car using it is a relatively new addition though, so I guess this could actually be quite useful. Take a look here as the system is explained clearer than it is in the manual...

You will need to register using your email address and car VIN (in the windscreen, under the passenger side wiper blade) here...

https://skoda-connect.com/portal/web/guest/market-selection

You'll then be issued with a PIN that you'll need to input into the cars infotainment system screen as part of the registration process.

Consider downloading the App too so that you can take advantage of the features via your phone...

If you change phones you'll just need to download the App on your new phone and log-in using your existing details.

4) If you're getting the distance to the car in front warning on the dash then you have the full colour central display. The lower spec models only get a black and white screen, and so this visual feature isn't available. Front Assist will actively apply the brakes for you.

If you get too close and the car thinks you're about to hit something, whether that be another car, a pedestrian, a reflection, or a crisp packet it'll slam on the brakes.

More often than not though it will offer you an audible warning and a big red image on the screen. If this is ignored, and the obstruction is still not being avoided the car will intervene by applying the brakes. Sometimes you get just the symbol on the dash, sometimes it beeps too, I've no idea why, especially as the manual makes no mention of the audible warning.

Mine was over sensitive, so I turned it down to the least sensitive setting.

It won't maintain the distance between you and the car in front, you only get this with the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

5) Rear Assist or 'Rear Traffic Alert' is to help you reverse out of parking spaces when visibility is impaired. It'll automatically apply the brakes if it sees an approaching car or pedestrian that you might otherwise have missed in your blindspots...

6) I can't recall the symbol you're trying to explain, two cars inside two circles?

Many thanks for this, the manual says to set the position to R when setting, as I have synchronisation set it drops both mirrors when I try to set it up. Setting to left it now reverts to that setting when reverse is selected and the selector is turned to L.

6) I can't recall the symbol you're trying to explain, two cars inside two circles?

Many thanks for the welcome. I was a member back when I owned the Felicia but after that went (cpu died at 52000 miles) I had little to contribute to the forum. A lots changed since (mostly the model range) but it’s nice to be back.

Some great and very descriptive info there, thank you.

My 6) was a poor explanation, but you did give the right answer with the image next to “warning risk of collision”. Very strange thing to see with little

warning and no traffic in front of me, it didn’t brake and went off before I could properly make out the image. I have heard about it being quite sensitive in the way you describe, something I’m not looking forward to and have set the messages to “warning: early” option.

Fair do’s with the driving option, I can see me getting fed up of selecting eco each time and leaving it in normal. It’s a nice feature as the eco takes a lot of the go out of the engine, which is nice for motorway cruising, knock it back into sport when you want to get your foot down then back into eco when you’ve overtaken etc.

Ive turned off lane assist already, driving home on the M1 and dopey drivers weaving in their lane and the car keeps wanting to pull you towards the centre of the lane. It does have its uses and may get switched back on occasionally.

Only 1 key is kept with the car, it’s a company car, so the spare is kept out of my reach. 99.9% of the driving is done by myself. Although the misses is wanting to have a drive before too long.

I already have skoda connect on the phone, it’s a handy thought to think you can not only check but also lock/unlock the car without getting from your chair or bed. It doesn’t seem to offer much more of benefit. Still I’m made up about the car play, and out of several car brands I’ve used it on, this is the best so far for its clarity and functionality.

Thankyou again.

All done.

There is a Report button on the RHS of each post for future reference.

since the topic is called 'Kodiaq questions' and I could not find a better suited one, I'll ask one here:

can anyone confirm (or deny) that the port injectors have been removed from the 2.0 TSI 190 GPF WLTP engines on Kodiaq (as it happened on Superb) ?

No they haven’t

I see that on my ea888 gen 3.B 2.0 TSI 190 engine that Multi Point Injection (MPI) appears to have been retained, whereas on the 272 PS Superb with Gasoline Particulate Filters (GPF) the MPI injectors have been removed.

I had had a look and you can see the low pressure fuel rail and output from the fuel pump. I believe  It allows for more complete mixing at low rpm and therefore better particulate performance and has the added benefit of keeping the inlet valves clean which was an issue with earlier high mileage TSI engines without MPI.
