Skoda Octavia 1.8 4x4 petrol turbo.

Featured Replies

Hi people,

I'm all new to this so please bare with!

I'm driving the Skoda as in the title, a 53 plate model, I'm wondering if someone can spread some light on something for me.

It's not always the case, but rarely Il put my foot down a little, and it will be vary boggy and gutless, a bit jolty. Untill the revs are a bit higher the turbo will then kick in and pick up speed.

Please help!

Kindest regards.

Hi, welcome to Briskoda.

What sort of revs are you starting to apply throttle at?, have you only recently bought the car or have you had it a while to notice this as strange behaviour?.

It could be just a dirty throttle body, do you know if your car has had the ignition coil recall done yet?, as coils starting to fail can give that effect.

Is the car mapped at all?, we really need a little bit more info to comment more.

Has it had any recent code scans for errors at all?.

Hope it helps,

Phil

Hi Phil,

Thanks for that.

IV had the car since april, and it started this roughly a month afterward. It will be gutless and slow to climb through the rev range from a standing start and/or a rolling pace, in any gear or speed.

I have no clue if the ignition coil has been renewed.... And hasn't been remapped. I did have a diagnosis and from memory I believe it was basically sucking in too much air. Too rich air/fuel mix maybe?🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks again for your assistance, much appreciated.

Steve.

First thing I would do is try and get a VCDS code scan done to see what issues may be lurking. A diagnosis on generic equipment may not yield enough detail on the system to be relevant.

Fueling issues could be MAF related, or they could be down to a split vacuum or breather pipe sucking in unmetered air.

As you can already see, the available alleyways to just guess are vast and expensive. Best to get a scan done (a member on here may help depending on your location) to see what is and has been going on.

There is a dealer coil recall on the 1.8 engine which is carried out foc providing you meet the criteria - a call to your local Skoda agent will confirm whether or not it needs to be done.

Hope it helps

Phil.
