Dpf problems

Featured Replies

Hi all, can any one or two of you wise people help me out. My octi vrs is using a lot of fuel, I’ve taken it to a garage and they seem to think the dpf is blocked and recon I need a new one as it is reading 320mb resistance, is this likely or can I get it cleaned out, and also possibility of the cause of the blockage. We do some short journeys and some motorway miles , 122000 on the clock.

If the DPF was getting blocked, I'd expect lots of regens, probably to the point you'd get the DPF light on the dashboard lit up. I assume this isn't as you've not mentioned any warning lights...?

Which engine is it, the earlier PD170 or newer CR170?

Hi There

yes there has been a dpf light on the dash board, took it for a long drive up the A14. Got back home turned car off then on again and light went out. Took it to the garage two days later and that’s when they said dpf was really clogged up. They then showed me the figures they got when they took it for a test drive and plugged it in. 320mbar pressure. The engine is a cr170

It’s possible other parts have failed that are causing this.

have a search on here but EGR may need cleaning or replacing - have you read the car to see if any faults come up on the ECU?

usually you can get the DPF cleaned off it’s that bad

It really depends on how much diagnostics they have done, if they have just read out the pressure reading from the sensor then it could be the sensor that is goosed. They might have already proved this isn't the case but I would want to know for sure before spending money on a DPF just because a garage said so.

I got a new pressure sensor put on seemed to have fixed the problem with the fuel. It’s been a couple of weeks since that went on, all good until today when the turbo doesn’t spool up now . Any ideas

Are you saying it’s in limp mode or just your turbo isn’t spooling full stop?

Have you checked and cleaned or replaced the EGR?

Not sure really turbos definitely not working lack of power. Had a new actuator put on about 3 months ago

What warning lights do you have on the dash!?

if your DPF was blocked I suspect you’ll need to investigate the EGR valve and look at your glow plugs but taking it to a garage and getting them to fault code the car is the first step

if your on the A14 corridor there are a lot of specialists around depending on your exact location

Hi phil

no lights on the dash, taking it in tomorrow might get them to stick a new egr on as it’s done 122000, or can you get away with taking it out and cleaning it. Also do you think the turbo could be sooted up.

Think I’ve got to the bottom of it , seems the pipe from the vacuum pump to the actuator had a hole in it.

got that fixed seems to be working as it should now . Thanks to everyone who offered there advise, thanks all.

Perfect and a cost effective fix!

Vw/Audi workshop Milton St in Ipswich is a decent local if you ever get stuck again!
