190 Vs 150 DSG Diesel

Featured Replies

Hello People,

I took a test drive of a 150 DSG the other day it was 2017 and it felt a little flat. When driving at 30mph it seemed to be in too higher of a gear and seemed to be laboring the engine some what. Will these issues be alleviated with the 190 spec?

What mode were you in? Eco/Comfort/Normal/Sport?

What issues??

Engine isn't labouring when driving at a steady 30mph.

I have the 150 dsg diesel and find it fine. I guess the 190 will be better if towing and also 190 has ad-blue which the 150 doesn't.

The labouring engine could be because it is cold, once it warms it moves into the higher gear more easily.

I thought from MY18 onwards the150 gained SCR/ad-blue?

I’m not sure why the OP felt the 150ps engine was laboured, particularly under what should be low load. I’ve had cars with each unit and if anything it’s at lower speeds/revs where the 150 trumps the 190. It’s smoother and ‘pick up’ is quicker. I surmise that this is due to the turbo being smaller.  The 150 is my favourite unit of the two.

My 150bhp Sportline Plus Estate definitely has adblue.

DSG gearboxes (and all other autos) have software that has the car in the highest gear possible. My 2016 150tdi dsg will be in 5th at 31mph, if you want it to be more responsive use sport mode.

My Porsche 718 with pdk will do exactly the same.

My Kodiaq tsi 190 dsg behaves just the same, for economy the dsg shifts into the highest gear it can (not just in eco mode but normal as well) but I wouldn't say it's labouring no, however a slight increase on the throttle will soon have it changing down a gear. If you require yet more response use sport or manual modes, seemples. It's my first auto and I likely won't go back to manual cars now.

When I test drove, the dealer only had the dsg available in the 150 tdi and what I did find with the diesel was, you could do with a mode in between normal and sport, with normal not responding quickly enough and sport being too responsive (didn't bother fiddling with individual/personalized mode on the test drive) doesn't seem to be such an issue on my tsi, perhaps because the petrol engine has a broader rev range.
