Changing gearbox oil 1.2 TSI

Featured Replies

I have been looking to change the gearbox oil on my 1.2 TSI 5 speed now that the car hit 60k miles but cannot find enough information about it online, I know they are "filled for life" just wondering if anyone has done it and what is the correct oil, 75w or 75w90, gearbox is coded MFX

Item 6A here fella: https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/etka/skoda/fab/697/300100/

Part number G 052 512 A2, 2 litres reqd by the looks of it.

<£10 +VAT per litre for genuine according to here: https://www.allcarpartsfast.co.uk/vw-audi-seat-skoda/vw-audi-seat-skoda-g052512a2-transm-oil/

Wouldn't bother trying to find aftermarket equivalents at that pricing.

Drain plug just below nearside drive flange, fill plug just behind offside one. 17mm male hex tool required to undo, make sure you can undo fill plug before draining!

Make sure car is nose up for draining, and level or a little nose down for filling. Funnel with long clear plastic hose attached is handy for filling from the top.

60K is very early, but no harm in it.

@Wino thanks! when do you think it would seem reasonable to change it ? One of the reasons why I want to change is because I find the gear shifting super light, I can change gears with one finger. comparing to the others cars on my family, 1.6 tdi and 2.0 tdi so probably not a fair comparison.

Very easy changing doesn't seem to suggest a problem with the oil?

When the oil might benefit from a change will depend mainly on how often the driver(s) mess up a gear change and grind metal fragments into the oil. If that never happens, the gearbox will probably outlast the engine on its original oil fill.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the oil, just wanted to see if an oil change would tighten the shifter but thinking about it probably won't do anything will just leave it as is, thank you again for your help
