rear lights

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The light out, warning light came on this morning on the dash, I think I have narrowed it down to the rear fog lights (UK kerbside), Can anybody tell me if when the bulb is replaced with a new one, why the fog light still doesn't work, Is there a way that they need resetting, The chap in the motor factors store said that VAG group cars switch off the circuit to the affected bulb until the bulb is replaced, don't know how true this is , and if it is, how long does it take to reset itself or do i have to do something to reset the circuit. after all of the above, can somebody confirm that there is a rear fog light on both sides or am I trying to fix something that isn't there anyway.

thanks in advance

regards

bryan

There's a rear fog on both sides, but as standard only one is enabled.

It is the off-side light that is set to work in the UK.

Once a failed bulb is detected, it's supply is removed. If you replace the bulb and it passes the next check then the supply to it is maintained.

It looks like your failed bulb is elsewhere.

If you use VCDS, Carista, or some other software, it will tell you which bulb has failed.

Pikpilot,  Thanks for that answer, I haven't got any of that software, I've only got a basic OBD2 Reader, I'm Guessing that wouldn't specify which bulb, just that there was a bulb fault?

Thanks for that link, I've just done a scan but it has come up "No faults", Might have to nip it to my garage, get a proper reader on it,

Will Carista point you to the specific bulb, I have been hanging my nose over 1 for a while, this might be the push I need

Yes it should do as yours is a face-lift model. I can't say for sure as the only bulb failure I have had was a drl bulb and that was obvious.

If you do buy the app then consider using it to switch on some of the nice to have options.
