Back again....(did you miss me?)

Featured Replies

I think I first joined here in 2004 when my wife bought a new Fabia vRS.  She swapped that for a BMW 123d some four years later and about that time I stopped frequenting these pages.  Three years after that, we bought her first VW Tiguan after the BMW was stuck in a snow drift outside our house for 3 weeks in 2010.

Eight years and three Tiguans later, we're hoping to pick up my wife's new Karoq 190 TDI SEL in the near future, i.e. just as soon as the Tiguan 184 TDI Match that she's had for the past 3.5 years and 60K miles leaves our drive for the last time, in the next few days.

By now, that generation of Tiguan is a 12 year old design. A short test drive in a lower spec 2WD 150 TDI revealed just how much the new MQB platform and the lower, lighter bodyshell contribute to improving the ride, handling, steering and roadholding over the old Mk5 Golf based chassis of the three Tiguans we've had over the past 8 years.

VW have upsized the new Tiguan and the price has gone in the same direction. So much so that the spec we wanted was going to come in at over the all important £40K threshold. When we visited the local Skoda dealership and were offered a 190 SE L, which is the closest replacement for our current Tiguan, at a very good price, it took us 24 hours to think about it and we returned to do the deal the next day.

So far, the customer service from West End Skoda in Dunfermline has been exemplary and I fully expect that to continue. Other members of my family have purchased several new Skodas in a row from them. Had it not been for the fact that the delivery time on a new TDI Yeti in 2010 was 6 months, we'd probably have had several of those rather than three Tiguans in the past 8 years. That was after they loaned us a Yeti on winter tyres during the ice and snow of 2010 and the way it tackled backroads coated in several inches of solid ice was very impressive.

Here's to another 60K miles or so of Karoq motoring over the next four years.

A warm welcome back to the Forum !  An interesting history and great to learn of your experiences.

Tired of having to borrow my wife's nice new Karoq whenever I wanted to tow one of my trailers, I decided to do something about it.  So, in February, I bought myself a low mileage 16 plate Yeti SE L Outdoor Drive 150 TDI from a member of a BMW motorcycle forum of which I'm a member.

I've spent a fair bit of time and money getting it fettled to how I want it.  It drives very nicely so far; although I have been in discussions with Darkside Developments..... 😀
