Right Rear Door Actuator replacement

Featured Replies

Hi There,

Just wondering if anyone had replaced the actuator on the read door of a Super MKII 2011. Is it an easy job and how is it done please?

I am particularly keen to remove the door panel and get the correct part number ordered for the actuator, but stuck at "How do I remove the door panel" :)

Any help is appreciated.

I can't help you with the actuator replacement, but I've had the door panel off on my car's passenger side rear door a couple of times (trying to solve a loud rattle).

I used this guide and this video to give me some idea of what to expect. There isn't much to it to be honest, but a plastic pry tool set will be very handy. As will some replacement panel studs. I'm sure a more skilled person can get them off without breaking any, but I broke two the first time (none the second time, but that was more luck than judgement!). I bought these ones.

It's not hard getting the panel off - just go slowly and remember that there are cables connected to the door panel.

@Skodasv

Whats the problem with the actuator?

I ask this because I had same problem and the cause was the front door wiring harness broken not powering the rear door

a common problem with these

The door intermittently locks and cannot be opened , actually most of the time. The alarm goes off even when the door is closed. Occasionally the door doesn’t lock and can be opened when all the other doors are properly locked.

the symptom is classic of the micro switch on the actuator failing, the micro switch tells the system the status of the door ie: it’s open, it’s closed , it’s locked , it’s unlocked.

what’s the symptoms of the front loom failing?

Mines was rear door not opening or sometimes not locking
Put it on VCDS and came back with door controller

This controller is powered from the front door

The problem is the wiring loom on front door it breaks the wires in the big rubber grommet between door and A pillar

I have figured the process to remove the door panel and got the actuator removed. Waiting on parts from the UK for replacement. Too expensive in Oz

@Skodasv

While your at it check the front loom this will give the exact problem you are having.

Check before you replace the actuator

Read the post re the loom definitely something sort out. Was it a difficult process?. I am guessing the loom that needs replacement only involves opening the front door panel right or does it go all the way to the rear of the vehicle?

Its easy to remove the black bellow from the A pillar then you can see the state of the wires inside
I will find the pic of the broken wire on my phone and post tomorrow afternoon.

Its a very thin wire and when this breaks it gives the exact problem you have

a lot of people have went on to buy door controllers at over £100 and then have to get them programmed to car to find out it is getting no power then try to return part and dont get refunded as electrical part sold correctly😒

Still stuck with this problem. The rear right door doesn't lock. Checked the A-Pillar wires and they proved to be intact. Even tried giving them a hard nudge to make sure.

Replaced the door actuator  with a brand new unit which just arrived. Symptom is the same unfortunately. The door just doesn't lock. Any ideas?

Ignore this... yes it was the wires.. hidden well inside the rubber boot was a broken green wire.. not to research how I replace the loom... Grrr...kicking myself for not listening to @DEL80Y

@Skodasv

Dont replace the loom thats another headache trying to get it disconnect from door lock.

You can loosen the loom from the inside of door to give you enough to pull through to the outside then just resolder the broken wire with a new longer section

Much easier😎

Hi mate, thanks again for the tip. Could you please tell me how I loosen the loom. At the moment I can easily remove the rubber boot from the A pillar but not the boot end that connects to the door? Do I need to take the door card out?

@Skodasv

Yeah door card of then release a few of the tie wrap clips (carefully) that hold loom to inside if door to give enough play in loom for you to pull it through (outside of door) to get enough wire to cut and replace

I would be checking them all as I had about 5 others that had the sheathing cracked and ready to completely seperate..
