VRS245 spare wheel / space saver

Featured Replies

Picking up new (used) 2017 VRS 245 in a week or so but want to get spare/space saver. Any advice on what size I need/what will fit in bay would be greatly appreciated.

The Skoda official one is a skinny 18”. Fits perfectly into the spare wheel well in the boot 👍

When I stuck a space saver wheel into the boot space, it does of course leave a gap of space above it between the cover and the wheel. A weakness if like me you sometimes carry heavy scuba cylinders and the like. They could break through the floor and into that space. The remedy was simple, make up a piece of 5 ply to the correct size and lay it down in the boot. Good and strong for any heavy items you might stick in the boot. Far better to get a spare wheel than that gunge most cars now come with though. The picture was taken in that lovely period early in the year when the sun was shining, as you can see by the bright spot on the lower right corner of the photo.

As above the OEM spare wheel for the cars with 340mm front brakes is the 18" skinny space saver with a 125/70/18 tyre Part number 5G0601011 & 5E0093860A

Alternately you can get a standard 6.5Jx17" ET38 steel wheel, Put a full size 205/50/17 tyre on it (which fits over the brakes and exactly under the boot floor) and have something you could drive on with a bit more confidence if you did not want to put the first tyre you could get from the nearest place.

A standard jack kit will fit in the hole of most of these wheels with a little foam shaving

I have a Full size  18" Gemini ( supplied by CallMeGaz ) wheel in my boot fitted with a 225/40/18 tyre, you need to trim the polystyrene wheel/jack holder to keep the floor level, I believe the 19 " extreme wheel with a 225/35/19 tyre also fits.

I did this as I don't drive at 50mph :shake:  as required by the skinny wheel/tyre

That is all

Anyone know where I can get a single 19" Xtreme rim from - my VRS 245 didn't come with a spare wheel.
