MK1 Fabia - Replacing the brake light switch

Step 1 - Using the hole along the bottom edge, lever out and remove the fuse box cover.

Step 2 - Remove the T20 screw.

Step 3 - Remove the dash trim by pulling away from the dash.

Step 4 - Remove the T20 screw.

Step 5 - Remove the storage compartment by pinching in the hinge points and withdrawing the lid.

Step 6 - Remove the diagnostic socket by releasing the retaining tags top and bottom.

Step 7 - Remove the T20 screw.

Step 8 - Remove the T20 screw.

Step 9 - Remove the T20 screw

Step 10 - Remove the T20 screw.

Step 11 - Remove and disconnect the headlamp switch

Step 12 - Remove the lower dash trim (if AC is equipped, disconnect the AC hose running to the top of the storage compartment).

Step 13 - Locate and disconnect the connector brake light switch.

Step 14 - Rotate the brake light switch anti-clockwise and remove.

Step 15 - Best advice is to replace the earlier ratchet type switch with the later plunger type. It is much easier to install and far less likely to go wrong.

Step 16 - Note the key way on the new switch, install and the rotate until the switch clicks, plug the switch in.

Step 17 - The brake light switch, installed correctly.

Step 18 - Check the switch operation on the pedal.

 

Off -

Step 19 - Check the brake lights are working correctly.

 

Step 20 - To install, reverse the removal steps and if required clear fault codes.
