BLT versus ASZ engines

Featured Replies

Hi,

can anyone explain the pros and cons of both of these engines on the vRS? I used to have an ASZ engine but have heard the later BLT ones suffered from a stutter later in the rev range? is one more reliable and powerful than the other?

No they're the same engine but the BLT had more sophisticated emissions control, BLT will often make close to 150bhp standard but once remapped they both make the same power.

To get Euro 4 compliant, BLT has water cooled EGR, physically different ASV/EGR  and mapping to suit. Stutter caused by interaction of cooled EGR "slug" in off/on accelerator transitions. 12mm EGR gasket will fix most/all of the stutter.

BLT factory mapping supplies more fuel and is slightly more powerful (usually).

BLTs should be more reliable as they are the newer cars. A 2003 VRS is over four years older than the last of the 2007 special blue ones.

I've had 2 Fabia MKI Vrs, one with the ASG engine and the other with the BLT engine.  The BLT ( 06 plate ) was considerabley faster than the ASG  ( 04 plate ). Both were not re-mapped. If I remember correctly the BLT engine was in the slightly face lift cars ( colour coded external door handles etc etc )

My biggest regret was getting rid of them, the best VRS ever..........
