Interior heating problems

Featured Replies

Hi sorry if this has been asked before.

I own a 2009 Skoda Superb Mk2 1.9BXE. It has developed an issue where it will not blow warm air through the blowers unless the car is moving. I have tried replacing the thermostat today as I was told this could be the issue but it seems to have made no difference to the heating at all and possibly made it less effective.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

Is the fan operational?

Hi, Sorry dont know if you're talking about the blower motor or radiator fan. Both are working correctly though. Blower motor Is probably in it's way out as it's starting to make a weird sound but currently still blowing air.

5 speed manual

@Fishy941

Cause the DSG has a separate thermostat that can cause issues

Have you tried a cooling system flush?

or possible water pump spinning on its splines which would cause  not circulating water at idle

Tried a full system flush. Will need to look at water pump, it was replaced about 8k miles ago. Didn't think of it as an issue since it was circulating. Thanks for the info.

@Fishy941

If it was replaced 8k ago don't think it will be that

But then again

@DEL80Y

You would think but you never know, I've noticed the cars used about an expansion tanks worth of coolant since I replace the thermostat last week so maybe the system just wasnt bled right afterwards.

Hi sorry for taking so long to update on this, only got the car booked in and got it home last weekend.  Waterpump is in perfect condition so not looking like the cause. This one really has me stumped. Mechanic reckons it could be the head gasket gone, is it possible to test without taking it apart if you know? Thanks in advance.

@Fishy941

Yes any competent mechanic can check the cooling system with a combustion leak kit that smells for combustion gases that are coming from expansion tank.

Snap On do a good with 2 different fluids for petrol or diesel

But you an get cheap kits from ebay

Okay thinking that's my next plan on attack. May take a while to update due to Christmas being just round the corner. Appreciate all the help this far. Hopefully I come back with some better news

Evening @DEL80Y and anyone else who might be following this, Bought one of those testers from Ebay, looking like there is exhaust gases in the expansion tank. This backs up the theory that the head gasket is gone. There is no coolant and oil mixing or anything atm, just the problem with the heating. Think I could chance my arm until after the new year to price the replacement?

Yea new thermostat put in already, full system flush, water pump is all good. Did a block test with a kit from ebay and its showing exhaust gases in the expansion tank. For sure looking like a head gasket at this point. Will price new year gasket and head skimming in the new year.
