Superb vs A6/E/5 NVH ?

Featured Replies

I just wondered if anyone has any experience on how the general NVH and ride comfort of the Superb compares to and A6 / E class /5 Series

I know you will all give me your unbiased view 😁

It is but a fully loaded Superb is a base spec or base spec+1 of A6/E/5

Looking a kit and things like ventilated seats that aren't even an option on the others they are not that far apart

Oh and of course the interior space because it doesn't need an engine bay to take a straight six engine

yes, there isn't black and white verdict, except design of my car :)
i love Superb on long journeys, latest
but hate huge count of service visits where this rattle still not solved

Came from a 2014 5 series on 18" wheels with RFTs. Current Superb on 17's has a much more compliant ride, none of the low speed jitter sound on 5 series. Engine refinement speeds is far superior in the Skoda (petrol v diesel). At motorway speeds the BMW was fractionally quieter, but had more wind noise around from screen at mirrors. I find the Superb more comfortable, more refined and quieter all of the time.

Thanks for your informed feedback

I had a lift in a 5 with RFTs along time ago and was surprised how coarse it was

I now have a much longer commute than I used to and although I have never owned a diesel the 50mpg is starting to appeal

Although not coming to the UK as yet I like the idea of a Superb Scout which I think gets 18"s

I assume you have standard sus rather than mag dampers ?

This is a you tube clip in German though where they compare a SIII to A6, E-Class, 5 series and V90.

I've had Superb for 2 years and 70.000km (Additional noise insulation, a lot of noise fixes (with various tapes, foams etc) and upgraded canton subwoofer). I bought 1 year used Volvo V90 with 66K km on clock for same price as new Superb. After driving 12K km on Volvo with Bowers sound system I can easily say that Superb can't match this class in anyway but styling. My V90 is much quieter, ZERO suspension noise, everything works perfectly (the adaptive LED headlights respond MUCH faster and better to other cars), the sound system is far superior (much expensiver too) and the drive comfort is just better. There is nothing I miss about Superb but the interior space for rear passengers and cargo bay loading options (the nets on Superb were much better than what Volvo has) and the low fuel consumption. The 8 speed auto on volvo is just amazing, the ride quality is amazing, the way car works, drives, suspension, handling, comfort, it's just better in every way.... Noise wise even with additional noise insulation in Superb, Volvo is quieter inside. I can't understand how someone can compare an 70K worth car with 33K worth car. It makes no sense at all. There are always trade offs. The important thing is if you can live with them? I couldn't I admit. My superb drove me crazy. Literally. I was soo unsetisfied with the car after 2 years that I had to get rid off it and I lost a lot of money and I just don't care.

My experience with Mercedes E class however is different  than Martins. I think that his test E class must've had a error. I had 2 week testing with E220d avant and it was soo quiet I couldn't hear anything till 120kph. Literally NOTHING but engine at radio on mute. After 120kph I started to hear a little wind noise, but it was soo quiet... whisper quiet.  I went for Volvo because in long run it's cheaper to run than merc and the interior design is far better in my view. Of course that's just my opinion.
