Rocker Cover Leaking on a Scout

Featured Replies

I have a Scout with a BMM engine that is leaking like a sieve from the rocker cover having already replaced the gasket from DarkSide Developments.

Don't know if it was poor quality gasket or I did not get tightening sequence right.

So have bought a genuine one and will try again as I am currently loosing a lot of oil from it - any pointers or advice would be much appreciated

Did it come in any packaging with a manufacturers name on it? I’d be surprised if darkside was selling bad gear.

where about on the rocker cover is it leaking? Have the bolts been pushed into the gasket properly? Was the gasket seated correctly when put in, if it’s leaking that badly I’d assume it’s more user error than a defect, unless you’ve got excessive crankcase pressure or a crack in the rocker cover.

did you go round and check the bolts where all right a second time round?

Not badmouthing DS at all - it came in a plastic bag with no markings. Would like to know what the tightening sequence and torque is to get it 100 percent.

I didn’t say you was bad mouthing, I’d just be surprised that’s all as they have good rep.

Well I’ve replaced a few rocker gaskets recently during works, 1.9tdi 2.0tdi and 2.0tfsi and I’ve just gone from one end to the other and tightened up lightly until they bottom out , 15nm might be around the right spec but I know it’s not a lot, none of them leak, hence your saying it’s leaking so badly something must be up.

did you push the bolts through the gasket?

I’d have to search through the laptop for the correct sequence and torque specs.

Cheers Burnzy for the input will give it another go - a few of the T30's are chewed so either it has been overtorqued in the past and warped the cover or I'm a numpty 😜

it asks to put a bit of sealant round the bearing cap, make sure the surfaces are nice and dry as well.
