1.8 TSI DQ200 experience so Far

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Got a 2017 facelift Octavia.

Currently running a ECU & TCU (unitronic) Tune on the stock motor to get 234hp/340NM up from the stock 180hp/250NM.

Got sway bars installed for amazing handling. (IRS at the back)

EBC Yellow stuff pads on the stock caliper and rotor.

16-inch stock rims running Michellin Primact ST3's.

K&N Panel Filter.

The car has been running like an angry beast, always wanting to pull more but limited by the redline,

I crave more power! Yes, i know, the gearbox is the weaklink but i have been thrashing the car with the current setup and it has served me well, will be cautous of the fact the clutch might give but i can replace it with a better one. Need suggestions apart from the Kevlar discs sold by TVS.

Will be doing an is20 swap shortly, yes will limit TQ to 400NM and 300hp(approx.) for the GB. Need recommendations for DP, Intercooler and any other hardware to make the car faster, safley. Will also be doing 18 inch rims with PS4's (increasing width to 8J) and a suspension upgrade, subject to budget. Wanted your thoughts on what makes the car more stable in the corners, the sway bar has helped a lot and tires will too, but what should be the next upgrade?

Welcome.

What is wrong with going with the tried and tested Clutch Pack Upgrade for the DQ200 ?

Why do you want an alternative is it because they might cost less?

Not really, won't be compromising on costs only to impact reliability in the long run, just wanted to know if the kevlar discs are the only option i have. I also saw a bunch of conversions kits on thir website and was wondering if the dry clutch could be converted to a wet setup just like the newly announched 7-spd wet GB. But that seems too far fetched, point being, i am open to ideas on the GB. (not a swap to a bigger GB, costs way too much)

Who are you using for the tune for that?

What you need to do to make it 'faster' will depend on what driving you do where you are (temperatures)

And wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a 2.0 vRS to start with

Yep it would indeed be cheaper, not a great resale value on the car in my country, id lose moneyif i bought a vRS.

Tropical climate so Temps  hover around 25-34C, winters here will be 20-25C. I have a 26KM winding road that i go to drive every other weekend, temps there are between 20-28C most of the year, where I pretty much do my spirited driving and really push the car, but on my daily commute a sprint has become a common occurence.

Will be using Superchips for the tune on the is20, both ECU and TCU.

In those temperatures with an IS20 you will need a good intercooler, it does not matter what, just needs to be aftermarket and bigger than the Golf R intercooler which would work in cooler places.

Get the down pipe from whoever you get the intercooler from.  Best gains on these engines are obtained from doing little bits both sides, intake and exhaust.

In reality though, An IS20 on the 1.8 will do more than your DQ200 will handle (no matter what you do to it) with no modifications other than the IS20 and tune.

Could you suggest some brands for the IC and what size/spec. We have to import the part, might as well get a good one. Will manage the DP locally.

I thinki the K&N panel filter is good enough for the is20, had a cold air intake on my previous car, not so benefcial as the name suggests.

I am well aware of the limits of the DQ200, looking for solutions to the problem, will set limits in the Tune itself. Need possible suggestions on cooling the clutch and if someone thought they should frankenstein the GB, im open to that as well.

To be honest any of them will be good enough, Revo Apr Racingline, whatever you can import. you would probably get away fine with the Golf R intercooler but the work involved makes it worth going for something bigger, anything really you are not going to be asking major power with a 1.8 so it doesn't matter.

The standard paper filter is good for 300bhp+, don't waste your money.

Cant help with the gearbox, unfortunately it is just the wrong base car to highly tune, you could convert to manual or fit a DQ250 easier than major surgery on a DQ200.
