Half of the heated windscreen not working

Featured Replies

Hi, I have recently purchased a Skoda Mk2 which has a heated front screen. I was told that only half of it worked. Yesterday we had a heavy frost and sure enough, only one side worked. There is a line that runs from the rear view mirror to the dash. Luckily, the drivers side works fine. The passenger side does not work at all.
I have searched for a solution but can’t find one relating to Skoda.

It would appear that the screen is powered by two separate circuits as the line between the two areas is exactly on the middle. There is only one fuse for the heated screen which is 50amps and located in the under bonnet fuse box. This is obviously ok as the drivers side still works. I was hoping to find 2 fuses but it’s exactly as shown in the manual.
I have looked for the wiring but it’s not obvious where it runs or attaches to the screen. I was thinking that maybe it has shaken loose or got corroded. Any ideas?
Thanks.

I'm not sure what year your car is but you say on another post it's a combi, so I'm going with 2011> wiring diagrams. It shows three fuses involved, SC19 (5 A) on the fuse panel in the dash, SB8 (15 A) in the fuse panel beside the battery (also called the E box), and SB28 (50 A) also in the E box fuse panel. There's a relay (J47) which controls power to the windscreen, and as you guessed there are two connections to the 'screen powering two heating element arrays. It looks like there are two separate connectors for these connections, but I'm not sure where they might be physically, going by the wiring diagram. The manual for installing/removing the windscreen doesn't say where those connectors are either.

Thanks. That’s a great start. I didn’t know about the other fuses. I’ll check those.

Fuses are all ok so it must be a bad connection.
No idea where the wires connect to the screen. Possibly under the plastic panel under the bonnet below the screen? It has some slots in it but there is nothing obvious. Only other place it might be is either under the roof lining where it meets the screen or behind the windscreen post cover.

ring or pop in to one of the windscreen repair shops, they will know

I’ll try that. Thanks Superbdreams.
