New old Fabia MK3, click from clutch and slightly stiffer gear shifter

Featured Replies

Hello!

My Fabia MK3, 1l petrol 75 hp, has only  done a little over 1000 km, and I'm already noticing two potential problems.  One is a click you hear from the clutch pedal if you don't lift your foot really smoothly, which in crazy N. African traffic is not always easy. I read that many owners have complained about this issue but just wanted to confirm it's nothing too serious. The second issue is the manual gear shifter has gotten stiffer after probably a 50 km trip on a bad country road. I wonder if that would affect the shifter, or if cold weather might also do it; the temperature gets down to 1°c at night these days. I'm taking it to the dealer for a check up this weekend, but I also wanted to hear your opinion or if you've had similar issues.

Many thanks!

Sorry a bit late in replying:- clicks from clutch pedal, there are 1 or 2 switches associated with the clutch pedal and they can maybe be where this sound is coming from, also there might be some form of "over centre" spring or maybe even the master cylinder push rod that might need lubricated as it is not moving smoothly across the face of the part of the pedal like it is designed to do.

Have you worked out if the gear shifter is only getting stiffer when the engine is running, or the same, after a 50Km drive with the engine switched off?

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my questions! I honestly have no idea about where the click comes from. What's sure though is when you lift your foot really slowly, it does't click.

I took the car for a ride today for about 30 km but it was still slightly stiff both when the engine is running and when it's switched off.

I scheduled an appointment at the dealer's in the next couple of days. Will let you know what they say.

Many thanks again and have a great weekend!

So I finally took the car to the dealer today, and the chief technician examined it and drove it for a while, just to say that it's all fine and normal, and that all VWs gear shifters make feel a bit stiff. He actually made try a new Polo's and it felt exactly the same. He also said that I shouldn't worry about the click, that all the cars have it, especially when they are new.

The truth is I trusted his Judgment but I'm still not comfortable with the car making this click. I guess I have to live with it.

Thank you for your time!
