Headlight Removal

Featured Replies

I'm gonna burn this car lol. Mk 2 Octavia Side light bulb out on passenger side. Followed the user manual and tried to swing the light out ????
Not a hope in hell. Cant pull the lever.  Not for budging lol. Soaked it over night with plus gas, tried a rag round it, even used a set of mole grips to pull it out . Still it sits there laughing at me. There got to be another way to get the light out ???? I cant be the only unlucky ba****d that this has happened too ?

Push it down a little whilst pulling it out?

Wiggle the headlight up and down whilst pulling (take nylon nut off first)?

Push the lever in first before pulling?

Use GT 85 or Silicone spray? Point it under the light assembly. It's mostly plastic so there is not a lot to rust that Plusgas will work on.

I used a small spanner to lever mine the first time as I had the technique wrong.

Can sometimes need a slide hammer if it has never been released before, no doubt that once you have released it you will grease the mechanism well and operate it often.

I feel your pain but you can in fact put a huge amount of force on the mechanism and it will in my experience, release before breaking anything.

I had the opposite; got it out ok but when I went to fit it back in, the slide lever thing wouldn't go back into place.

A brilliant set up though if maintained.

Pity the designers of the Yeti chose to ignore the wisdom, on the facelift the headlights almost come out except for one fixing which needs the entire bumper to be removed, trouble is the bumper comes off without too much grief except for the two fixings each side from the front wings which can only be accessed after removing the headlights 🤣

Easy when the old one have been broken in a shunt because the one hidden fixing is the lug that breaks off, a bit more of a challenge putting the bumper back on though. Even that has been badly designed, the pair of impossible fixings would be a doddle if the captive nuts were on the other part and the fixings reversed.

Oh and you also have to remove or partially remove the wheel arch liners.
