Ac: Need help!

Featured Replies

Hi, I drive a 2014 Rapids. Used it 2weeks earlier and the AC was working fine. Took it out yesterday but only ordinary air was coming out and the AC light is on. Temperature knob is in the right place. Took it to the garage and was told there was no gas. The repairman started filled the gas but it still is not working. He thinks the compressor is faulty. Is he right?

Thanks.

Well, he should have been able to fit a set of manifold gauges onto the car to check what was happening when the system was requesting cooling, but if he also had proper VW Group diagnostic equipment, he would also have been able to monitor what the system was doing in terms of evaporator temperature, system pressure at the high side, percentage duty of the compressor and any logged faults the HVAC controller was holding.

I'm guessing that he did evacuate the system to dry it out a bit and also doing that checks if it hold a vacuum and not leaking before loading in the correct weight of R134A, over charging, ie loading too much R134A into the system can also cause it not to work, I'm surprised that "no gas" was found in a system that was still without leaks, and one that worked okay 2 weeks ago, okay R134A will get lost over time anyway, but not enough to go from "working" to "no gas" within 2 weeks without the system having a leak - maybe at the exposed areas of the condenser from stones being thrown up from the road.
