Lowering Monte Carlo

Featured Replies

Hi,

Looking to get my 2016 Fabia Monte Carlo lowered, quote I had from local VAG specialist supplying and fitting H&R springs (including alignment) was £480, thought this was a bit excessive?

Few years back had same place do Octavia vRS for around £400 ish.

Any recommendations in North East area?

Thanks! 👍

£480 is a bit steap but it depends how much the springs cost I suppose. I got my springs for £170 then had a couple of quotes at £200-£250 for fitting. Managed to get a friend to do it for £100 then got the wheel alignment done after.

It's worth noting that only the front wheels can be adjusted and only toe in/out so don't got for an expensive 4 wheel alignment it's just wasted on the fabia.

20% of the bill is VAT.

Not that expensive for Parts / Labour and VAT.

I expect the H&R springs will be a one size fits all approach. The original springs on the Skoda Fabia come in many different specifications depending on things like the weight of the engine/gearbox/aircon, the power of the engine, the maximum load, etc. Simply fitting a one size fits all set of H&R springs isn't a precise way of doing thing. You may end up with a car with a bad ride, and besides, you're never going to turn it into a Ferrari. If you're not happy with the handling, some fresh shock absorbers might be a better approach as shock absorbers do slowly become less effective as they wear and eventually leak. Fresh shock absorbers also help your tyres last longer as the tyres will remain in better contact with the road.

Fitting better shock absorbers like Konis or similar premium units is always a good move.
