Keyless entry and low battery voltage - charger use?

Featured Replies

My 280 L&K isn't getting much use currently - often sits unused for a week or so.

The last few times that I've gone to use it, I've had to use the remote fob to unlock it, as it wouldn't respond to the door handle sensors.

After a 20 mile round trip, it would lock OK on the door handle.

Yesterday however it wouldn't lock after a 15 mile drive, or another 10 miles later when I filled it with petrol.

It was OK another 10 miles later when I got home.

It always unlocks OK on the fob, and the engine start/stop button works fine.

Stop/start at traffic lights doesn't work though, which is understandable if the battery voltage is less than optimal.

I guess keyless unlocking is also disabled if the battery is low?

I've got a C-Tek charger (bought when I owned a Boxster, which totally drained it's battery in 3 weeks), so I think I need to start using it.

Where's the best/easiest place to connect a C-Tek on a Superb? Happy to buy a C-Tek connection kit if required for ease of use.

Maybe nothing, but have you ever changed the KESSY key battery? My car is 2016 and I got a warning on the Maxi-dot display saying the battery was weak.

I've not noticed any warning about the key battery - saw it on my previous Touareg when it was getting close to 4 years old.

I own a Passat 2017, i recently left it at the airport for a week and when i returned the car would only open by pressing the key fob. Maybe it shuts off after a while to preserve battery?

I think it's designed to disable keyless entry if the car isn't used for a while - my Touareg did this, but after a short drive, it would work when I locked it.

Took a lot longer to start working again on the Superb, which is what makes me think the battery needed charging, rather than the car just needing to be "woken up" with the remote.

My Boxster went to sleep after a week, and that had to be "woken up" by putting the key into the door lock - the remote fob got disabled too.

If left for more than 2 weeks, the battery went flat, which was a bit of a problem because the front luggage compartment (where the battery was located) could only be opened electrically. Porsche thought of that, and provided a pull-out charging terminal in the cabin fuse box. Still a right pain to get the charger cables connected, as there was no earth terminal in the fuse box - had to use the door hinge bolt.
