Have the ticking heater fan syndrome, probably leaf debris between filter and fan.

Does glovebox have to come out to access the filter or can it be done without recourse to unscrewing & dismantling.

I've looked for a post with some clues but although there are a few on both subjects none that actually clarifies. Any clues welcomed.

Nope - easy peasy job. You might want to put something in the footwell to catch all the cark, but other than that, all you need to do is feel front-to-back along the top right-hand edge of the passenger footwell. The filter sits on top of a plastic and rubber bar that is held into the dashboard by a slider at each end. Move the sliders towards each other, and then pull the whole thing down. Re-assembly follows the reverse process.

Glovebox is easy to take out, from then on it is simple to take the fan assembly out to facilitate clearing out the leaves, had to remove a mouse nest from one one day. The filter is usually removed with the glovebox in place, slide back the clips on the underside, remove the holder and the filter will slide vertically downwards, it is situated to the right of the glovebox next to the centre console.
