MONTE CARLO hid fitting guide

Featured Replies

Hi there have a Monte Carlo tdi now which has bi_xenons as standard , lights are poor just wondering how you would fit hid's. The hid's don't fit in the bulbholder so what do I need to order to make them fit, seen a guide on here but the link for product doesn't work anymore. Also what ballasts would you recommend?

Would appreciate any help.

You have sorted of contradicted yourself..........If you have xenons already, they are the same as HID's

As above, HID are High Intensity Discharge units using Xenons.

They are bi xenons mate but they have normal h7 bulbs fitted buddy. And by the way they are projector headlights fitted standard so fine to put HIDS in and beam pattern will be fine.

Not quite, they are Bi-halogen, not xenon..... unless your car came from the factory with HID lights, which I dont know "if" it was an option or not on the monte....... if it did A) you would already have HID lights and

B ) you would have headlamp washers as they must have a cleaning system.

And just to be clear, it does not matter what headlights you have, it is NOT legal to fit HID bulbs / kits into halogen headlamps......the link to the relevant info was posted earlier, who ever has told you different does not know the facts.

I need headlight washers and I can fit them perfectly legal if you have projector and headlight washers. Either way will be fitting some just wanted advice on how to bypass the bulb adapter problem.

As i said earlier.............but its easier to post it as you dont seem to be listening...PS I forgot the self levelling as well, which you def cannot fit without replacing the headlamp.....

In practice this means:

  • the headlamp unit (outer lens, reflector, bulb) shall be type approved to ECE 98 and be “e-marked” to demonstrate this. That can only be done by the headlamp supplier - Hella, Valeo etc. - who must test the headlamp in an independent laboratory
  • once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have “self-levelling suspension” and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam
  • the headlamp must be maintained in good working order, kept clean, and aligned/adjusted correctly in the same way as any other headlamp

Under the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is an offence to supply, fit or use vehicle parts which are not legal.

In summary: it is not permitted to convert an existing halogen headlamp unit for use with HID bulbs. The entire headlamp unit must be replaced with one designed and approved for use with HID bulbs and it must be installed in accordance with the rules stated above.

Not forgetting of course to inform your insurance company of this modification as per their policy. Whether they decide to continue to insure you will be up to them.

And how many people actually do this for something minor like lights

Cut the crap mate no one does it for small things like this.

erm.......I'm not lowering myself to an internet arguement over something which is black and white...........NO debate.....

What you do is your choice, we can only offer advice, and yes your right, most people do not tell their insurance companies, again, their choice as it will be yours......does not make it right and its a lottery when it comes to claim time.

And back to my post of which you felt your need to comment, I am dissapointed to hear a well known insurance company would seem to knowingly insure your car with illegal parts fitted which adversly affect other road users.

And who said I was your mate.

Just stating the obvious and for your information I wanted a guide on how to install HID'S not why they are illegal. By the way as of yet the car is totally standard

I know you were stating the obvious, I agreed with you in my last post...............the point is you fired at me when my post which you quoted was aimed at the insurance company which will ALWAYS take the moral high ground when it comes to claim time, yet seem to offer you insurance on your vehicle fitted with parts which are NOT road legal in the UK.

It certainly a debate Im interested in
