Electrical fault, The weather, Bad bulbs!?

Featured Replies

I have now had to replace my headlight, Dipped Beam (Projector H7) Drivers side bulb twice in 2 days!!

The 12 month old bulb in there, popped, last night (photo no 1) I replaced it at a local petrol station forecourt as the lighting was better there! All worked well till this morning, when, on my commute, about 45 minutes in, it popped! quite catastrophically judging by photo 2...

Okay I don't have teeny tiny hands, so struggled, but I was wearing gloves and made sure the bulb didn't touch anything as I wedged my hand behind (I think) the fuel pump and turned the holder to lock it into position!

So could it be an Electrical fault? My Ham-Fistedness, Bad Bulbs (Lucas H7) or just the weather effecting the bulbs!!

I'm starting to get frustrated with the lighting on my car (13 plate Greenline Estate) as I had to replace the number-plate bulbs (yes both!!) on Monday!!

Is it worth booking it into my local garage to get them to have a look for me!?

Could be the voltage regulator failing allowing the alternator to "over volt / charge" hence blowing the bulbs.

If you have a multimeter, read the voltage accross the battery terminals with the engine running. should be NO more than 14.4/6 volts ideally.

Overvoltage would not just affect one bulb location on one side. It would cause problems all over the car. You could have just bad luck or a wiring fault down the dipped beam. If it is that it can be fiddly to isolate the problem.
