Locking wheel nut identification

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm new to briskoda so please go easy on me, i've just purchased a 2016 mk111 skoda superb estate and the previous owner has lost the locking wheel nut key. I've searched the internet to try and find a match but with no luck, could you experts out there assist, below is a photo of my locking wheel nut.

Regards.

Your only hope is Skoda, some dealers have a full set of keys so they may be able to help.  Failing that you will need to get them removed.  Some tyre fitters are very well versed on this, I had one removed recently without any damage to the wheel, €60 per bolt.

Best bet... Identify them, through them away and replace with standard wheel bolts.

In all seriousness you could try smashing on an old socket over the head of the locking wheel bolt. You might just get enough of a grip to remove it that way (has worked for me in the past although was a different shape locking bolt). Of course a large enough socket to fit over may not fit in the recess in the wheel then you would be back to needing the key.

A universal socket (lots of displaceable pins) might shift it, though if a tyre monkey with an air hammer has been at it you're in trouble, if you do try a universal socket then use a T bar to ensure you don't use an offset load and cam out of the nut.  Some motor factors stock wheel keys, I'd push a lump of plasticine down to take an impression to compare against the key more easily, and I'd do that anyway to compare against the images linked above?

I don't think the old socket trick will work as these have a slip ring on them, so not enough clearance between the bolt and wheel.

I suspected that might be the case.

Although in the past I have turned down the OD of an old socket for a work mate for this purpose so that it would fit in there. The occasion I used this trick for myself the locking wheel bolts in question were a totally different shape to these.
