One of the front whipers don't move

Featured Replies

I have a Fabia (2013) and have just got a problem with the left front whiper which has stopped moving.
The motor axis is not moving at all.
Has the motor burned, is a cable loose or is there a problem with the mechanical transfer?
The other motor still works and the fuse seems to be common for both motors?

linkage probably popped of, quite a common issue.

Theres a topic on this forum about it.

Guran, you mean your Fabia has two front wiper motors?? What do you mean by "the other motor" when asking about windshield wipers?

Thank you, both Urban Panzer and RicardoM!
Yes there is probably only one motor and it might be a mechanical link that has popped off the axis.
Sounds reasonable.
Have you any idea/link to how to get in there and if it's any idea to press it back or if it might be too damaged?

remove wiper arms,

then open bonnet and remove plastic nuts from windscreen scuttle panel,

then lift panel,

unclip windscreen washer tube,

then remove panel and you will see the linkage.

There is another possible cause. See an example in the video below. Start watching at 3:30.

More likely the joint popped though, as its fairly common on these.

I note you say "Left side", here in the U.K. usually the right one fails. This is the drivers-side one and is driven by the mechanics that in turn, operate the left side...

I would have thought this was so as the right hand side one was a link, rather then the left, meaning the right was weaker, by design.  I would then think this is due to being a European vehicle and thus most often, left hand drive.  This theory would favour the common drivers-side being stronger, theory.

The usual, single piece that fails though, is only a few quid from a main dealer and not too tough a job to rectify, if you are handy with the spanners!

The stripping down is the biggest part of the job and when you re-fit the new rm, it is naturally harder to fit then the older one is to remove, as the little plastic ball joints are tighter when new. The other option, is to fit a little stainless steel clip over the old (Or new, to prevent re-occurence) Joint. They are easily obtainable, and last ages, despite meaning to be a get-home cure. (Had mine on at least three years).

Hi again!

Now I saw that the wiper is still stuck to the splines so it's most likely the link arm that has popped up.
I just tried to remove the wipers but didn't succeed. Put some 556 on the axis and knocked around carefully with a hammer

trying to crush som oxide inside but of no result so far. I'll have a look again tomorrow and see when the 556 has been working

for a while if that helps. Meanwhile I also tried to open the windscreen scuttle panel by removing the two plastic nuts.
It didnt move a bit. Any hints there?

Tomorrow I will have my car back from workshop as I had to give up on removing the whipers.
They got stuck.
I'll have to pay 1200-1300 SEK for the repair.
It was a nice try and I thank you all for the support.
I'm glad to have my car back before christmas trip.
