Heater fan on way out

Featured Replies

Hi all

My 2014 1.6 tdi's heater fan seems to be on the way out. I am lucky if it works at all on any of the speed settings (inc max), which I believe rules out the resistor. It can sometimes work normally but most of the time it is way underpowered and sounds like blowing across a bottle. What can I do before buying a new fan motor and fitting it? Is there a troubleshooting list I should do first??

Also any OEM part number I could get and a quick guide??

Thanks

Nick

So I have just tested it again this morning and it came on full blast (and all different speeds) for about 40 seconds. The heater fan then started struggling and in the space if about 20 seconds it went from full speed to off.  Does this sound like a faulty heater fan?

Have you checked the pollen filter to ensure that there isn't any obstruction before looking at changing the fan?

Does it without the filter. Easy to take out and had plugged it in the passenger well. Same issue. Ordered a reconditioned one off eBay for £50.

Will let you know what the new one does.
