vRS wins autoexpress hot diesel test

Featured Replies

buy todays autoexpress and have a read, it's pretty, cool... It's nice to see that although the fabia is now an old model, it still beats the newest offering from fiat! worth a look, (I'm sure someone will post the web-link for a read) , the end order is the fabia first, punto second and polo 130 sport last... (mainly because of its stupidly high price)...

note for the performance figure fans, they got the standard car to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds.... 30-50 in thirs 3.5....

  Excellent news! A well deserved victory!

What was their opinion on the Fiat's build quality? I hear it's much improved.

... But still not as good as the VAG cars according to AE.

"...worryingly there were a couple of bits of loose trim in our 3,800 mile test model..."

sounds like my old C2 :D

Fabia just been voted (Auto Express Issue 905) best small Diesel.

Against the VW Polo 1.9 TDI Sport & Fiat Punto 130 Sporting Multijet.

Not bad for a little car soon to be replaced ?

it's not actually going to be replaced just spruced up on a new chasis. imagine it will probably be better than this Fabia VRS.

imagine Fiat...must be gutted for thier "Grande Punto".

nothing can touch it tho from alll the review from the other makes.

The Punto looks very nice and if it had the Skoda's build quality, it would win

The only real competition is the Ibiza FR, Polo GTTDI and the Grande Punto. Hardly a tough line up to beat. But  anyway!!!

And the new vRS is a replacement, will be all new, and I certainly hope it will be better than the current model!

sureley a replacement is a new car i.e saxo/C2 (the C2 being the replacement)

the new fabia is still a fabia so is it is just a newer model of the car called the "FABIA" so it's not actually replacing it.

He's got you there, Tom. It's a new car from the ground up, except for the badges... ;)

I'd love to, but I struggle to get it here

(I'm sure someone will post the web-link for a read)

I checked the site but no write-up online.

Erm, I'd not normally encourage this, but do you have a scanner?:D Please?

im only having a laugh....we get what you mean tho Tom!

the new Fabia should be good...and will most likely be alot better than the Fabia. If it's anything like the Octy 2 VRS i sat in the other day it will be flawless. the seats and interior in that were out of this world.

Fiats problem is similar to skodas 10+ years ago. they have to lose the image they have "Fix It Again Tomorrow".

gotta admit it looks stunning I wouldn't buy one tho.

Like LOTUS!!

Loads of trouble usually serious

PONTIAC - poor old numptie thinks its a cadillac

FORD - found on roadside dead (edit: Sorry Chris!)

BMW - bling mans wagon

etc

Cheers for trying with that phone pic, though ;)

2 threads merged, if you are all wondering why the thread reads strangely.

always thort FORD was fix or repair daily....

Hang on! That vRS in that write-up has an engine cover on! Is this standard equipment?

What was the polo's and the punto's 0-60 time?

It would be great if someone posted pictures of the article.

VW site says 9.2secs for the Polo 130TD Sport

Fiat site says 10.0secs for the Grande Punto 120TD

Computer says.....

...no :D

It would be great if someone posted pictures of the article.

Like this, you mean?

Couldn't possibly do that - technically it's copyright theft! ;)

Oops, already have! :D Sorry if the quality's a bit poor...

Well that's very justified of you, Sir... :D

..I however, perhaps due to my ineptitude, couldn't get the link to work or grab the pdf using 'save target as'.

Oh bugger!
