HELP - FABIA Mk 1 fan blower not working in any position

Featured Replies

Hi

I’m really hoping someone can help me before I have to put this car into a garage costing me money I dont have.

My fan blower on my 07 fabia is not working in any positions. (I’m told this rules out it being a resistor problem as if it was it should still work in position 4)

ive checked the plug going to the fan and there is no power on it at all, and that’s with engine running and switch set to speed 4. Ive checked all fuses and they are ok. I’m wondering if there’s a relay somewhere that I need to check but not sure of its location?

For added info - this car has an AC button which also doesn’t illuminate when pressed?

Any help would be muchly appreciated.

Thanks ?

Possibly the blower switch?

From what I can make out looking at the Haynes wiring diagram, the blower switch sould have live at its red/white wire. This comes from fuse number 68 (25A). Check for 12 volts at that fuse as the only circuit it feeds is the blower.

Yer I’ve checked that fuse and it’s fine. I can only assume there’s a relay down somewhere. Is there by any chance a relay in that Haynes book pointing to what relay I need to check?

Thanks I’m advance

Have you checked for 12 volts at the fuse connectors though? I mean by removing the fuse and checking the metal connectors. One side should be live with key on. We need to establish if a feed is getting as far as the fuse. If it's not getting to the fuse then there is indeed a relay shown in the manual that is next in the circuit - item 18 here.....

Hi, yes checked both sides of the fuse and there is power to both. So the next in line, as you say must be a relay, or unless there’s a way the resistor could have failed  soo badly it would effect fan position 4? I’ve got a resistor on order so I will find that out tomorrow. It seems unlikely it’s the resistor though which only, and systematically, leaves a relay to check? Just don’t know where to look 😳

If there is power at the fuse then the problem can only be after it. It can't possibly be the relay as there would be no power at the fuse because the relay feeds the fuse. Next thing would be to establish if there is 12 volts getting to the red/white wire at the switch.

This really isn't a difficult problem to fix, you just have to be methodical.

Speed 4 totally bypasses the resistor so I doubt very much it's anything to do with that.

I’ve fixed it 🙌 it turnt out to be the fuse after all, I’m not sure how but it had fallen out and I hadn’t noticed when checking the other fuses that it was missing.

Thanks very much much for your help TMB!

You bugger :D

Glad it's working though. And no problem 👍

Mine did this a while ago and turned out to be the resistor pack (tucked up behind the glove box / pollen filter / fan motor...

it started out with it not working on fan speed one and then all the other speeds dropped off one by one until nothing worked... worth keeping an eye out for down the line...
