Selling a nearly new premium car

Hi All,

Long time no post from me.  I'm after some advice.

My Dad has recently passed away and the family is left with a '19 plate Range Rover Velar.  It's at the higher end of the spec list and I know it cost a fair sum when it was bought.  Can anyone suggest the alternative ways to dispose of this to get the best value for it?  I know that simply trading it in to a dealer will be the easiest and I can't imagine there will be too many buyers with that sort of cash available who won't be buying via a dealer.  I've seen selling comparison sites such as Wizzle but I have absolutely no experience of them.  Any thoughts appreciated.  Thanks.

You could try sell it to the dealer i guess worth contacting a local range rover dealership.

i doubt you will find many buyers with cash of that value

Sorry about your Dad, was the car his (outright), or was it financed, or was it leased ?

If owned outright, becomes part of his estate and executors need to sell it

If financed then executors will have to deal with finance Co, and probably settle balance

If leased, then executors need to let lease Co know, and they will collect it

There are a few specialist premium dealers that buy upmarket cars like this, don't know who is in Gloucestershire, but in Surrey there is one called Bramley, might be worth phoning one of these

Yes, owned outright.  Thanks for the suggestion on a specialist dealer, hadn't occurred to me and is certainly worth a go.

Is the car currently Insured OK?

Best speak with a salesperson or Dealer Principal at the supplying dealership, and find out the offer from them.

They are the ones that can make the best profit selling it.

When you know what they offer and anyone else then you know what a private buyer might pay, or a trader wanting it at less than they sell them for,

or without them buying at auction.

Re Buyers with cash for that type of vehicle.

There are plenty with loads of money, and those might well look like they have not 2 half pennies to rub together.

They might even live in mobile homes,

so be very aware of who you show the car to, as that potential buyer might come back and take it away for free.

Take great care of who gets to road test it.

DVLA have a special brevements section who deal with these sorts of circumstances if you need to change documents etc. However I'll warn you that they are just as useless and incompetent as every other bit of the DVLA.

I would suggest go to the main suppling dealer and get a price....then you will know the rock bottom value!!

As someone has said then go to a specialist prestige secondhand dealer, the offer from them should be better because they will usually work on smaller margins than franchised dealers.A bit of research will show that there will be several such dealers within say 50 miles, but you can discuss the deal over the phone,no need to go to them to get offers because a 19 plate car should be a known quantity without having to inspect it.

The other method of getting a better price is to leave it with a dealer for them to sell for you on commission, but I’m not sure many would be comfortable with that degree of trust.

A private sale advert is a forlorn hope to getting a top price where high value cars are concerned (no finance offered, etc),but at least you will know where to price it after dealing with traders, and you never know...but you need to be very careful of the criminal types that could be attracted, this thought in itself would be enough to put me off.

Good luck!
