Noisy rear wiper - possibly silly question

Featured Replies

I've got a 2017 Octavia Estate and I'm about to change the rear wiper blade for the first time.

From new, it has always been irritatingly noisy - unless it's absolutely tipping down, whenever the wiper has moved it's made a loud creaky scraping sound as it moves across the glass.

I'm about to buy a full set of wiper blades and would like to fit a blade that doesn't make this noise. It's a 13" blade, as far as I can tell - is it worth fitting a better-quality front blade to the rear of the car (Bosch Aerotwin Plus AP13U, for example?) or is there some other fundamental difference between the shape of rear and front blades that I've missed, that would mean it's incompatible? For an extra couple of pounds it seems to make sense to avoid further irritation (and waking up sleeping small people in the back of the car on long drives!).

Thanks. :)

I would just fit the correct size blade to the rear. Usually Eurocarparts have 50% off offers so you can get the blades very cheaply. I have always fitted bosch and have never had any issues.

Fair enough, thank you! It's the right size, so I've taken a punt on it. I'll update the thread when I discover if I've made a mistake...!

On the Octavia this seems to be a sign the blade needs replacing.

I replaced mine with the Bosch Aerotwin equivelant (front and back) around 2 years ago when mine started makind a noise similar than you describe.

Everything was fine afterwards even in dry or light rain conditions.

The fronts still seem fine today but the back has started scraping again so I'll pick up a replacement from amazon again while Im home of Xmas.

From the comments I read about the Bosch Aerotwin blades the only complain is they are softer than the VAG official parts & need replacing more often.

However, as they are half the price of the official ones this limitation seems fine to me even if I need to change twice as often.
