3,4 AND 5 GEARS DOES NOT GET ENGAGED

Featured Replies

SKODA OCTAVIA 1.9 DSL HAD BEEN VERY LOYAL FOR  THE PAST YEARS.  RECENT MY 500 KM RETURN TRAVEL THE TOP GEAR FAILED TO GET  ENGAGED AND HENCE I DROVE  WITH FOURTH GEAR LIMITING THE SPEED TO LESS THAN 80 KMPH AFTER ABOUT  THREE HOURS OF DRIVE  FOURTH  GEAR ALSO BEHAVED THE SAME WAY FAILING TO GET ENGAGED,  SINCE IT WAS GETTING DARK AND REMAINING HOME WAS ABOUT 130 KM,I CONTINUED WITH THE AVAILABLE  HIGH GEAR 3 I CONTINUED TO DRIVE AT 50 TO 60 KMPH . BUT UNFORTUNATELY THIRD ALSO FOLLOWEDWED THE SUIT. AND I HAD TO RETURN HOME  TRAVELLING  40 KM AT 40 KMPH WITH THE SECOND GEAR ONLY. THAT APART I DIDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM AWESOMELY INCLUDING MILEAGE IT REMAINED ALL THE WAY 22 KM/L.

CAN ANYBOY TELL ME THE REASON AND REMEDY FOR THE TROUBLE

I rather fear your main gear cluster has failed on you, probably repairable but may be cheaper to find a good, low-mileage replacement box if car worth fixing.

Does the broken box sound like a rock crusher?

'Worth trying doing a linkage alignment first, but otherwise yes; it's a major gearbox repair or replacement.

Firstly welcome to the forum, but if your car is a 2007 your probably in the wrong forum as 2007 is more than likely a mk2 not a Mk1. As stated try resting the linkages firstly though.
