This is something that happens, particularly if the car has not been used regularly.

The problem is caused by a sticky microswitch but, from personal experience of two cars with that problem, you can safely ignore it providing you are prepared to put up with the warning showing up intermittently.

You may find that the more you use the car the less the warning appears.

Hi Hozz,

I'm Driving the car 3-4 days a week with over 190kms per day. Almost 1k a week..

It is not so much a question of distance travelled, more a case of how often the gearstick is moved, the more often the less likely the warning appears.

Hi hozz,

It's constantly being used when I'm I'm Dublin  coz I do used my car as a taxi 2-3 × a week

Have the same problem. 2 months out of warranty and 20K. Skoda UK not interested - said talk to your dealer. Given the cost of the fix I'm tempted to keep driving it unless it will cause further harm. Maybe someone more tech savvy than me would care to comment. TIA

Had the fix done today at Hawco, VAG dealer in Inverness. £37 for the switch and £220 labour. I'm happy.

I have been getting this error recently on my Fabia v3 2017, and I have been told that the gear selector assembly has been superseded now so the switch can not just be replaced but the whole gear selector for £1,400 +VAT and labour. Does this ring true with anyone?

i THINK they only released a fix for one of the assemblies, but then released for the others.

If you look on https://www.akstuning.co.uk/shop/home/1928-genuine-vag-dq200-dq250-dsg-parking-brake-fault-fix-5q0713128a.html they list 4 different types, you need to lift the gear selector surround to find out which type you have.

Thanks, I will see if I can do that. I don't usually pull my cars apart, I leave it for people who know what they are doing. I was just worried I was being scammed and trying to justify if it is worth getting it repaired or getting a new car, as it would cost approximately half the resale value to get it fixed.
