Fitted an Oversized Ramair Kit..

Featured Replies

Hi Gang,

Just wanted to share my opinions having fitted a Ramair kit on my Pre FL VRS.

In short I'm made up with it 😂 and before anyone starts, I've been driving for 23 years and heard every story going about fitting induction kits/heatsoak panel filters etc so please don't try and educate me.... I'm just a big kid and I needed to replace 2 of the intake pipes due to splits so that's my excuse 😊

All in all the sound is what I was after and boy that's what I got 😂 it clearly makes it's prescense known! Having had 5 Imprezas over the years I miss the sound of the boxer engine/ chatter etc, although this isn't close it's certainly made the case sound amazing compared to standard.

The throttle response is so much better, it literally feels like the massive cone is on the end of my foot 😂 my head is telling me the car is quicker which I doubt it's added any BHP, although I found a bad vacuum leak and my fixes on the split intake pipes might not have been 100% so possibly I've gained some power back.

I've tried to get some videos of sound when driving but it does it zero justice, it sucks and chatters quite loudly as soon as the turbo spools around 1700rpm dying off as the revs rise. Need to do an engine detail ASAP also..

Next up the essential stage 1 MAP...

Glad you are happy with it.

Are they not pushing the boundaries a bit by calling it a ram air kit?

The OE set up could be said to have a certain ram air affect with the air intake facing forward behind the grille albeit probably minimal but taking in warm air from the lower pressure underbonnet area, how can that be called ram air?

Have you had to do away with the engine cover to use that set up or was it just for the photos? The engine noise sounded nice but I felt that I could hear more of the twincam whine that I like due to the lack of the engine cover more than any induction roar.

The engine cover is where the original air filter lives.

It would need to be modified quite alot to let the intake pipe run along the back of the engine bay

This does indeed do away with the engine cover, and thank god for that! It was so annoying not being able to see the engine/pipes/hoses etc without having to whip it off 🙂 the noise is much better in reality especially when driving.

I've taken off the sound proofing under the bonnet too which helped a tad. Luckily I've had both my belt/pump done plus my chain and tensioner so the engine just has that sewing machine noise from the HPFP which is a good sign.

The Ramair thing I have no idea

Isn't Ram Air the brand name? Rather than what it does.

It's what it doesn't 😁

Any suggestions for a brand name for what it does?

Ouch Ken 😂 I'll send it to come get you if your not careful! It's big and angry enough

I had a Suzuki 250 GT Ram Air in 1977.  It was a 2 stroke, sounded like it and went like one.

A car rammed into me and took off my leg. So it was well named as my leg flew through the air.
