Kodiaq found unlocked in the morning!

Featured Replies

Following on from a problem I had a few weeks ago where I went out in the morning to find my windows open and the car soaked, I've now come out to find the car unlocked!

I put the windows opening down to an accidental activation of the window convenience facility when the keys were in my jacket pocket indoors. Now even if I didn't lock the car which I'm certain I did and there was another 'accidental' opening which I doubt there was, the car is supposed to automatically lock itself after a brief time. I'm wondering what is going on.

I bought the Kodiaq new in September 2019. Has anyone else had problems like this?

The car has to be locked in the first place for it to automatically lock after being given another open signal from the remote.

So chances are you never locked the car in the first place.

Thanks, must be my mistake. My last two cars locked automatically if empty. I thought it was a standard feature on modern cars.  At least I've learnt something.

Pretty much all modern cars will lock themselves back up if unlocked from a locked state and nobody enters within 20-30 seconds.

I'm not sure they make a car that can decide when to lock itself, it seems like a bad idea to me, especially with deadlocks, even cars with KESSY do not lock themselves.

I would keep an eye on your car and make a conscious effort to make sure it has locked properly and see if it happens again.

If the car was originally locked, then you accidentally pressed “unlock” on the fob, the car would unlock, but lock itself again if no door is opened within 45 seconds (it says in the handbook).

But if you accidentally pressed the fob as you headed for the car, it would be unlocked when you arrived.  Perhaps that happened?

It's probably my fault one way or another. I did go back and look up my previous cars handbooks and it seems they had the same system as the Kodiaq - only automatically locking if opened without the doors being opened.  SuperbTWM was right.  It must have happened to me one day and I didn't fully understood its operation.  There are so many technical things on cars  now, I didn't have this problem on my first car a Triumph Herald.

Keep an eye on the door mirrors, a good visual telltale from inside the house that the doors are locked if they're folded in.

You could always use Skoda Connect to check your doors are locked and windows closed from your phone, saving you from a surprise.

I trust Skoda Connect less than Donald Trump 😂

Not true!  The mirrors folding in shows that you have requested the locking of the doors. When they actually lock, the flashers will briefly flash.

Try leaving a door slightly open, and “lock” the car.  All seems to go well and the mirrors fold.  But try a door: they’re all still unlocked 😳

Nope, you're wrong, at least on my 2018 Scout. I've just been out and checked.

Unlocked the car using KESSY, opened the drivers door, fully closed the drivers door, opened the drivers side rear door, partially closed it (on the latch, but not fully closed), locked it and all doors locked. The interior lights stayed on, as did the central dash display showing a 'red' rear door, but all doors were definitely locked.

I checked both rear doors, both locked. The only way back into the car was to unlock it again either by touching the front KESSY door handles or using the keyfob.

Well, I'll be ...

You’re right, 1011!  I recall someone mentioning this oddity on the forum, soon after I got my Kodiaq (just over 2 years ago). I went out and tested it and (to my surprise) it was true!  The original poster hadn't checked that the kids had closed a rear door, invisible from the house, and found the car wet and “available” next morning.

I just tried it now and - like you - I found the car to lock properly, whether the “testing” door was on the latch or fully open - obviously, that one door wasn’t locked, but it did lock as soon as it was closed.

I wonder if there’s been a software update somehow applied.

The situation you described was definitely the case on my previous Skoda's.

This is my first car fitted with KESSY, I wonder if this changes the locking characteristics somehow.

I am pretty sure the mirrors can be set to not fold in automatically when locking, so folded mirrors isn't always a sure sign that the car is locked.

Not sure about the doors but the electric boot is a pain in the arse.

3 times now I have found it to be open in the morning.

I'm sure I'm not that clumsy..
