Using OBDeleven as a diagnostic tool?

Featured Replies

Hi, how would I go about using OBDeleven as a diagnostic tool for troubleshooting rough idle from cold? I can see intake air temperature, ambient air temp, mass air flow, throttle position, fuel pressure etc. But can I diagnose the working of the glow plugs and injectors or not?

I actually think it might just be some iffy diesel as it clears after a few mins and it's only been doing it for the last week or so. But I want to check.

Can't speak to the rest but I know from this winter when two of my Glow Plugs went bad that they threw an Error Code P067 and the Engine Management Light came on and stayed on until I cleared the error.

So I'd guess that it the Glow Plugs are bad then you'd get the same error.

In my case I got two error codes P067100 & P067400 pointing to Glow Plugs 1 & 4.

May I ask you if it's normal on my Octavia 2 2013 that EPC and Check Engine lights stay on when I turn on the ignition,   while they disappear when engine starts?    I tried to erase the Fault Codes,  but my OBD reader found none.

I thought it's normal,  but MOT guys wrote it as a warning, making it harder for me to sell the car.

It's normal - it's a way for the lights to be checked, same thing as the SRS (airbag) and ABS lights.

Thank you!  The MOT guys said that the light must not stay on: the airbag light goes off after a second,  but Engine and EPC lights stays on until I start the engine.  Can you confirm that this is normal?  I will than complain to MOT center.

Thanks,

Sergey

If the lights go OUT when you start the engine, then that is normal. Only if they stay on when the engine is running is it a problem. Complain to the garage AND about them here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/complain-about-an-mot

Thank you, Nik!  I will link to this post if I decide to sell the car.  I have written a negative review on Google for this QuickFit garage,  but I am not sure that I can officially appeal, since the appeal is for PASS/NOT PASS  question and not for the advisories.
