Wifi, what is the point?

Featured Replies

Hi I'm new here and recently bought a 2017 Superb.

It has built in Wifi, but no Sim card slot.

I can connect my phone to the car and vice versa, but I cannot see the point as neither offers any features.

My phone browser doesn't work and it doesn't offer any any actual features in the car.

I have downloaded the Connect app and tried putting my VIN in but it says it doesn't have that option.

TIA

I would love to know the answer to this question too!!!

As far as I am aware, when you connect your phone to it, it turns your phone's signal via the car into a wifi hotspot that others can connect to. Bit of a waste of time. I you want others to connect through your phone you would just need to turn on its own hotspot tethering.

The owners manual page 174 gives more information.

It allows access to the Skoda connect services on the infotainment screen.

Making your phone a hotspot and tethering the car to it does the same thing.

It gives you weather, news etc. and a sat nav remote planner/route set function.

You can also get a VW data plug for £4.99 on eBay (worked in my new Octavia) that lets you access Skoda lite app, which has quite a lot of useful functions. Certainly worth a fiver!

Thanks.

There was no extra functionality on the infotainment screen.
