high MPG on 1.6FSI engine

Featured Replies

Dear members ,

I have a 1.6L FSI octavia which had an engine swap from a BLF engined code to a BLP type.Since then on the dashboard am getting an average of 17MPG.

What could be the cause?

Below is a screenshot of the VCDS diagnostic kit

Welcome to the forum.

Hopefully someone can help.

?

So since the engine swap is the cars actual MPG OK, and just the Dash reading rubbish?

And what do you get by measuring distance between fills? I'm wondering if the issue is with the trip computer and not the fuel consumption.

Those temp sensor faults could be causing it to run rich all the time thinking it is cold. What does vcds report coolant temp as and lambda?

@Ken,

I haven't been filling up of late but the last time I did it came to around 11 gallons consumed for roughly 460 miles.This was for highway driving with little traffic coupled with smooth driving.

@TheClient,

Am in the tropics ,where its hot throughout the year.I have also noticed the fan remains on even after switching off the engine.Needless to say,the fan coil resistor for the aircon is faulty.

Could these be the culprits?

Yes. It may be hot and the car maybe to temperature but if the ECU can’t get a read on the engine temp it will likely default to a richer lambda value. Can you monitor lambda measuring blocks when the car is to temp. Or I’d fix the coolant temp sensor or wiring.

the air con faults will be unrelated I think. The resistor failure for fan speed common fault. Fans running after switch off are controlled by the fan control unit. If it’s short it may be normal for your environment.  If the over run flattens your battery it will be a fault.

that highway mileage exceeds 40 mpg. Would you expect more.?
