Oil Sensor Fault?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Had my 2011 Octavia VRS, petrol DSG since October last year. In December had an oil and filter change as the “check oil level” warning came on the maxidot, it has full Skoda service history with its most recent service being done in June 2019.

Last week the “check oil level” came on again, checked the dip stick and it was in the middle of min-max, but slightly closer to max. I thought for the sake of it I would top it up to the max line, but still the check oil level message comes on every time I start the car and flashes up on the MFD every so often travelling.

I am going to change the oil level sensor, can anyone suggest where to get one and is it relatively easy?

Thanks in advance

I  have the same model, year car. I havent had that problem in 4 years / 40k. I've never had the notice come on!

The sensor is easy to replace, on the oil pan just behind the drain bolt. Easiest to do at oil change time.

You can get it from a skoda dealer or maybe after market if you can cross reference parts .

Think this Hella aftermarket is an equivalent part, it should also let you reference back to the original part code. Check for yourself though.

A doddle to fit at oil change time. 3 Bolts and one wiring harness clip.

Thanks, that’s really helpful. I’ll check it out and get one ordered from somewhere.

I’m going to swap the oil from 5w-30 to 5w-40 anyway so I’ll do it then.

Make sure you buy a genuine Hella one. I've gone through two aftermarket ones and whilst they cured the check oil warning, the oil temperature doesn't read correctly. Doesn't affect the operation of the car, but frustrating nonetheless!

From memory TPS quoted me about £100+vat, but I've seen them on eBay for half that.

I'm due to swap mine out for a genuine on my next oil change.
