Aftermarket LED headlight housing.

Featured Replies

Hi All

My lights are exceptionally poor. I have tried 55w, 100w and currently have led bulbs in but although the best so far, they are still very poor.

Are there any decent aftermarket LED headlight housings for the 2010 Octavia FL?

I don't know of any LED headlight housings for a MK2 Octavia...

Sounds like your reflectors might be burnt or damaged. You might need a new pair of headlights 😕

One is new as I crashed it a wee while back. They both look absolutely fine.

They used to be pretty good, especially with the 100w bulbs but I think there was a light control unit or something that was replaced and had to get welded in. Ever since then they don't seem as bright even with 2 x 55w LED 's in.

A 55 watt led should be enough to illuminate a tennis court, never mind two x 55 watts........Poor oncoming drivers.

That's the point, they are not bright. It's usually difficult to tell if the lights are actually on in lit up areas.

I found the lights appaling on the MK2 compared to the MK1, then I found that there was some pulse width modulation going on to reduce the power going through the bulbs to increase their life, I know the percentage illumination for DRL's can be coded in VCDS and I think the dipped beam could be tweaked as well.

Mine was resolved by fitting an HID conversion but it took a long time and some compromise to the beam height to not trouble and be flashed by oncoming traffic, I must have got it right because I have been in the UK since November (all but 3 weeks) with LHD headlight dipped beam pattern and I have not been flashed

If you have a new bulb control module fitted I would get someone to check the coding, that LED lights dont show any improvement does sound like they are operating on a reduced voltage.

Not quite sure what you meant about being welded in, did you mean coded in?

was going to mention cleaning inside the lens / eye, but as one of yours is new it will not be as bad as mine were

This is with a torch shone through it after showing how mucky it was prior to cleaning.

You can change the dipped beam voltage but I believe it's set to 13.6V by default.

I have the standard halogen headlights on my mk2 with a set of decent 55W H7 bulbs in and they are pretty good, certainly far better than some cars I have seen

No, they said what ever it was, was welded in. It certainly feels like they are on low power. They used to be good lights before the work was carried out.

How do I check the output from the control module?

Car MOT'd today. Failed on mirror indicator but the LED lights passed ok. No comments or advisories so beam pattern ok.

They are still dim.

Does anyone know how to check and adjust the headlight bulb voltage with VCDS?

Can't remember exactly where it is in VCDS but it's very easy to do with Carista

Log from today.
I looked about for the headlight voltage but couldn't see where to change it.
I already knew about the alarm siren. Suspect it needs new battery.
I have new mirror indicators ordered to replace both sides. Passenger side not working and drivers side was flickering at MOT test.
Tested heated mirror wiring and no power so break in wiring somewhere or maybe a loose plug??
Headlight looks like 11.7 volts. Can this be increased??
Any other thoughts??
