skoda superb 2012 clutch

Featured Replies

Hello experts need help

My skoda super 2012, TSI MT(32000 KM), clutch is hard and i personally never noticed, while a routine check the technician said cluch might be bad and need replacement, he also said this is causing the gear shifting to be hard as well. is this correct inference?,

will there any other reason why above behavior is observed

Thanks in advance

Which tsi engine do you have?

1.8 Tsi

If the clutch is dragging/ not fully releasing then it's usually harder to engage the lower gears (1st / reverse)

I asked as the 1.4tsi  and 1.8tsi are very different re clutch.

The 1.4tsi has an external slave cylinder whereas the 1.8tsi (and 2.0) has a concentric slave cylinder (inside bellhousing). The concentric slave cylinder is known to fail.

There is a tiny chance it's the master cylinder , but I doubt it. I'm afraid it's probably eventually a full gearbox off clutch replacement job - replace everything including full clutch kit including slave and DMF(the 1.8 usually has a DMF and the 1.4 usually had a SMF) seeing as though the gearbox has been removed.

Define hard.

Comparing to Superb II a new generation of Ford Mondeo, Toyota Avensis and LC V8, BMW 730,  so on require a significant less force to depress clutch. Actually there is little control on clutch movement and all vehicles mentioned above (diesel engine) engage at the very end of pedal travel. Weird and hard to control it if not used to operate it gently.

According to mileage mentioned nothing should be replaced at this stage.  I changed clutch assembly to my Superb at 165K km only because I had to rebuild the engine due to excessive oil consumption and I used the opportunity. Otherwise it shifts very well and fully engage transmission as it did from 7 km 10 years ago.
