ASR disabling by VAG-COM?

Featured Replies

There has to be a way of either:

1- telling ASR not to reset to "ON" when the ignition is turned back on, or

2- simply disabling it

Anyone have any thoughts?

I guess thats why they put the button on the dash? As its related directly to the ABS system, I suspect they made sure it couldn't be deactivated like that, and why they gave us a button to turn it off but still have ABS.

I had 6 months of no ASR at all on startup, but then I also had no ABS too.

Not that I know of, its a safety system much like ABS.

what would you want that out of interest??

i leave my ESP on all the time except when i want a quick getaway but turn it on as soon as i'm in either 2nd or 3rd just in case :)

I was with Xav in the furby the other night and I remarked that the throttle is noticeably more responsive with ASR (not ESP) off. He was in agreement.

It can be done on the Golf Mk4 by changing the soft coding of the ABS unit to ABS only. Not sure about other platforms and of course it's done entirely at your own risk.

Just remember the codings are different for different models. The Fabia uses a different ABS system to the Golf etc.

I'd be very careful about tampering with safety features in a way it was not 'officially approved'.

It is likely to cause an interesting discussion at the very least if you were involved in an accident, probably voiding your insurance.

I'd be surprised if insurers would touch it too.

Turning it off is quick & easy, and it won't cause any grief :D
