changing my window and door card to my new door

Featured Replies

hi guys

can anyone tell me if this is an easy job? im thinking about doing it.

may thanks

Pretty simple task really, just carefully remove each bit.

Does the new door have the glass in it ?

no i tried finding the same colour door with window but no luck. so i will have to put my window and door card onto the new door, thing is i watched a video and the roller part seems really awkward to put in my new door.

is the roller already attached to the regulator? i saw a guy on youtube ripped it out from the door itself which makes me think it wasnt attached.

Not sure what you mean by roller ?

remove door trim

The window regulator can then be removed seperately to anything esle, once that it disconnected from the glass, the glass panel can be removed.

The rest is the door lock motor, wiring loom and any hardware, like door release cable etc.

Whole job, 3-4 hours.

sorry it looks like a roller but its the thing that is behind the regulator where the window sits on.

i was thinking about taking the old door off and put the new door on then slowly put the things on it, what do you think to that? would that be better or should i just lay both doors on floor and do it that way?

well here is teh update: the door is jammed shut! cant open it even with a few kicks from the inside.

Can you get to the door mechanism? I had this on my mk1 fabia once, I hadn’t connected the door handle to the mechanism correctly.

good luck. On an unrelated topic I also once locked both keys inside the mk1 after changing window and interior door card! That was an experience

i was thinking maybe after the crash, the locking mechanism got broke. problem is i cant get the door panel off without taking the door off so im stuck.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a while in the hope that when reconnected, the lock  mech might just function?

thank you for the reply mrgf.

i have a feeling that it was locked all that time i tried to open it. when the other car crashed, it must have broke the locking mechanism, i never thought of that till a day later.

...So is the door still locked, unable to open at all?

i gave up and got the engineering guy at work to sort it out.

engineering guy was busy so he hasnt sorted it out yet.

ok lets say i want to try sort the door out this weekend, could anyone tell me how to open the door when its locked? i cant even get the panel off with the door closed.,

ok guys bit of an update:

the door is locked permanently, i had check inside the door and the locking mechanism will not open the door at all.

question is, how do i force the locking mechanism out from the door so i can open the door? i was thinking about a crowbar, i have already got another locking mechanism so i dont mind if this breaks, i will be putting the new lock into my new door.

anyone please?

If the door is trashed, why not cut it right open from the outside, you can then attack the lock assy  ?

i have already thought of that but i cant just force it out can i? i will be ordering the locking mechanism when i know if i can take it out without damaging any other components as i still need to swap everything over to my new door.

If yours is a Mk2 hatch then yes.

does anyone know how i could somehow take the locking mechanism out please? bare in mind i cannot open the door to take the door card off. if i could take the door card off then maybe i could get to the screws that is holding the locking mechanism.

did you cut an access hole in the outside ?

If so, should not take much to break the lock apart to release the door,
