Scout FULL fluids change - how & what ?

Featured Replies

I can manage an engine oil change.

I'm about to get a 2012 MK2 Scout, I plan to change all fluids and filters, what do I need to buy for each job ?

I'm thinking engine , DST gearbox, Haldex, Diff., brakes, coolant.  Anything else ?

Are there any decent how-to guides on here ? ( I've found lots of chatter and people disagreeing about existence of filters, many clearly written by people who know as little as I do ).

Do I need special tools for anything ? How much oil and what sort for each task ?

DST Gearbox? Or do you mean DSG?

Despite what both local Skoda dealerships told me when I had my 3 previous haldex oil changes with them, Gen4 haldex does have a mesh filter fitted.  Local VAG indy carried out my fourth oil change and had to purchase the filter via a Volvo source, as Volvo replace the filters when carrying out this service on their vehicles.

Haldex oil change with Skoda is about £75. Same service with VAG indy was £160, mesh filter was approximately £50.

The drivetrain should get a full service

The gear box I understand that there are 2 drain plugs as there is a web which semi separates the gear box from the front diffs. I think that filling the gear box fills the front diff as well

The transfer box. This is bolted onto the side of gearbox and is separate with respect to fluids. The drain is easy to get but the fill is a dog.

The haldex and haldex filter. Don't mix up with rear diff. Some Skoda dealers will insist that there is no filter. Other dealers may give you rear diff fluid and insist that it is haldex fluid

Rear diff fluids.

Note allways open the fill plug before the drain or you might get caught.
