Door Lock Failure

Featured Replies

Hi

I bought my Skoda in December 2016.  within 2 years the front passenger door handle mechanism failed and this was replaced under warranty. I have taken out an extended warranty and now the rear passenger door handle has failed.  I have been told that this is NOT covered under the extended warranty so had to pay £151.56. I have the following questions

  1.  Would you expect to have a door handle fail in a car of this age?
  2. I was told that bad weather could contribute to this as the door may become stiff and difficult to open, is this correct?
  3. Has anyone else had issues with Skoda door handles failing?

Thank you

Heidi

I'm not aware of this being a common problem from when I was doing research to buy a Superb.

1. I would expect a door handle to last most (if not all) of the lifetime of a car unless it's used as a taxi perhaps and opened a disproportionate amount of times per day.

2. Surely the door handle is not fit for purpose if it can't handle bad weather.

3. Don't know.

Under what grounds is the door handle not covered by the warranty ?  Are they saying it's "wear and tear" and as such is normal to expect it ?

If the door was difficult to open one morning because it was frozen up, I would still expect that the door handle mechanism should be stronger than the bond between the door seal and the body.

I would expect it to be more robust.  It was my daughter who opened it not a weightlifter!!
