What to look for when buying a Fabia lll

Recommended Posts

My wife has just had her Peugeot written off in an accident and is looking at  Fabia lll ,15/16 plate as a replacement. Most of her Journeys are on motorways and does 10k+ miles each year.

I have read George's comments about the water pump failures on the 1.4 TDi  and not to touch this engine with a barge pole, so will avoid that but what else should we be concerned about?

Many thanks in advance.

Early 15's don't have Android Auto / Smartlink / working.

MPI's with the 1.0 litre engine not best for motorway work.

TSI's with the 1.2 Litre Turbo engines good with a choice of:

90Ps with a 5 speed gearbox or the 110 Ps with a 6 speed gearbox. DSG also available.

Several trim levels to look at and they can be ordered with many extras.

I have had a  TSI 1.2 90 PS since June 2016, £20 road tax better than 50 MPG in the winter when it is worse than the summer.

Now up to 41,000 miles with fixed servicing done since new.

No complaints here, still like it.

Thanks AG Falco

Thanks for your reply. Most Helpful.

Does the 1.2 TSI have any of these ongoing problems of the 1.8 and 2.0 TSI?

The 1.2 Tsi 110 engine is very capable and seems to be reliable. I have it in my 2016 montecarlo with DSG box; it's very nippy, especially in Sport mode. Usually it returns around 45 mpg mostly driven locally: better on a longer run.

The only 'known' issue with the 1.2 TSI is it's ability to drink fuel if driven at higher engine loads. Which is basically the main fault of all small turbo engines.

We live in a very hilly area at the top of the Pennines and couldn't even manage 40mpg in a 1.2 tsi golf we had as a courtesy car. Even when driven sensibly.

Small turbo Petrol engines?

I have managed to get less than 50 MPG per tank, working out brim to brim once or twice.

When the`MPG since start of the journey' shown on the infotainment system goes above 100 MPG

it only displays to the nearest whole number. You lose the decimal point.

Different range/family of engines from the 1.2 TSI EA211.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Today we purchased a September 2016 1.2L colour edition with only 22k miles from a Skoda garage. My wife is delighted and actually likes the colour combination of Race Blue with White!

Many thanks,

Mike
