So, 4 years ago today I picked up my shiny new company car from the dealership, with a whopping 9 miles on the clock.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As it's now 4 years later (and I won't have it much longer), I thought I'd post a brief summary of my experience and what I've had happen.   4 years and 122,271 miles later...

In short, I've loved all the time I've had this car and it's made the distances I've travelled for my job around East Anglia not be so much of an issue.  Daily commute to the office is a 100 mile round trip, mostly on dual carriageway, so wear and tear hasn't been a great problem - Front tyres replaced at around 46k and 90k, with rears replaced at 73k but only as they'd got uneven wear.  For all those who've had issues with brakes, mine hasn't had them changed yet (although the last MOT noted rear brakes getting worn and the garage advised the front ones were getting tired so make of that what you will!).

 

Only items of note I've had are creaking suspension which was eventually sorted with some re-greasing of bushings (though I think it might be coming back a little), the glovebox popping open if I hit a bump too hard (and the garage couldn't replicate so I'm stuck with it) and an episode last summer when after going out at lunchtime on a really hot day I appeared to get clutch drag on reverse and 1st.  This cleared itself over the weekend and the garage couldn't find any other issues.

 

With a family of tall children the space has been awesome, which I've experienced due to others getting car-sick I've often ended up in the back on long journeys!  Boot space is fantastic - great for everyday but I've variously had a front door, a single bed, washing machine and half a ton of shingle in there with no issues.

 

After 4 years it still puts a smile on my face when I'm in it, despite it not being super sporty or anything, and the fact that I'm getting on average around 55mpg (see the Fuelly thing in my signature) is great.  Don't regret getting this car for a minute (well, except for the odd time when parking it but that's a small price to pay!).

 

As I said, it's now time for a change and I wasn't sure what would happen, but having been given my new budget I am, much to my delight, in the market for another Superb!  Sadly I can't afford one in red as the S doesn't come in that colour, and the SE with red paint is beyond my budget.  I haven't quite decided yet but I am more than likely to go with a SE in the free blue colour as it ticks the boxes of having front and rear parking sensors and the adaptive cruise control, which I can really do with on the A14.

 

I'll stop rambling now, but i hope that helps anyone considering one of these, while there are some that are not good, there are others that are simply Superb!

Nice post. Mine will be 5 years old in October but has only 26k on the clock 🙂 No plans to change.

Looks like it's time for another half a ton, best to use this car than the new one! 😂

Great write up ,defo get ACC with DSG   ,Mrs finds its great in stop start  traffic,much less tiring on a long run .

Sadly budget only stretches to a manual with the ACC - DSG was on the wish list but along with red paint and a sunroof it's had to be abandoned!  Unless I go for something smaller but as the Octavias all now say 'only available from stock' I'm a bit stuck!

Shame , dsg takes car  to stand still in traffic then moves off when car in front moves ,Mrs wouldn't have a manual now ,so much easier 😁

And with ACC and a manual box it usually throws in the towel when going down through the gears at some point in heavy traffic. Its fine at the rest of the time though but it will change your driving style with a manual box as I tend to find that I focus on managing the gears to keep ACC happy.
